An MMO without paywalls?! This game is currently storming the gaming charts.
The new MMO Where Winds Meet has reached an impressive milestone after just two weeks and when you take a look at what the game has to offer, it definitely makes sense.
Where Winds Meet Delivers An Impressive Launch
Where Winds Meet, the new MMO from Everstone Studio, has quickly become one of the most talked-about titles in the gaming scene. Shortly after its release, the Wuxia-themed open-world adventure recorded an impressive nine million players within just two weeks, at least according to the developer’s official numbers. The success is also clearly visible on Steam. The peak reached around 250,000 concurrent players, and with roughly 200,000 daily active users, the game consistently remains among the platform’s top charts. These figures, however, only represent part of the full picture. A large portion of the player base likely comes from consoles and the Epic Games Store, which explains how the title reached millions so quickly. For a free-to-play MMORPG that has only been available worldwide for a few weeks, this is an exceptional start.
Why Where Winds Meet Is Winning Over So Many Players
This level of success is completely understandable when you look at what the game brings to the table. It offers a huge open world packed with side quests, a polished combat system with seven different weapon types, and an overwhelming amount of content in general without putting paywalls in the players' way. You can spend money in the game, but it is mostly for cosmetic items. The graphics also look really good, and the Wuxia atmosphere fits the game perfectly. The story is another strong point. It may not be a narrative masterpiece, but the characters are all very likeable and the story is well presented with high-quality cutscenes.
For a free-to-play MMO, this is an enormous amount of content. Most MMO players are used to barely taking two steps in a game without being prompted to buy some kind of expansion. Whether the game can hold its ground in the long run remains to be seen, although the initial launch has definitely been a success.
