When we discuss in our office whether cowboy or pirate games are better, the cowboys mostly win. And honestly, that’s not because pirates aren’t cool – it’s because the genre has been sleeping since Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. But on the horizon, there’s finally hope: Ahoy, a new pirate adventure is currently in development and already turning heads on Kickstarter.

Historical Detail Meets High-Seas Chaos

Unlike most half-baked attempts at the genre, Ahoy aims to combine historical authenticity with modern multiplayer gameplay. Set in the late 18th-century Caribbean, it drops players into a living world of colonial powers and unpredictable seas. The developers promise a strong focus on player choice – whether you rise as a feared captain or sink into obscurity will depend on your crew, allies, and the risks you’re willing to take.

What really sets Ahoy apart is its ambitious multiplayer mode. Up to 16 players can crew a single ship, coordinating everything from sails to cannons in intense naval battles. Rather than relying on button-mashing, combat in Ahoy relies on wind, positioning, and teamwork, meaning no two encounters play out the same way. Sounds like quite the test for your larger friend group.

Visually, the project also looks stunning. Ships and environments are meticulously (and historically correct!) recreated with a love for detail, from rigging and cabins to bustling trade routes and hidden pirate hideouts. The result feels less like arcade action and more like a true historical adventure – with just enough swashbuckling chaos to keep it exciting.

There’s no release date yet, but you can already wishlist Ahoy on Steam and support its Kickstarter campaign – Ahoy might finally chart the right course.
