PlayStation is known for many things, but not really for being family-friendly. Most of their biggest IPs contain some form of violence, for example God of War or The Last of Us.

With the great success of Astro Bot, the company has set a new path for themselves.

More Family-Friendly Games In The Future

In a segment from the most-recent PlayStation podcast, PlayStation CEO Hermen Hulst spoke with Astro Bot's creative director Nicolas Doucet.

They talk about the impact of Astro Bot on their company, and how they will continue going forward.

Hulst stated:

I think it's massively important that PlayStation Studios develops games in various genres, and the family market, I think, is really important for us to focus on.

At the time of its launch, Astro Bot was the best reviewed game in 2024, which of course didn't go unnoticed by the company.

Hulst went on by saying:

Astro is very, very important to PlayStation. Obviously, we had the pre-install on the PlayStation 5, that millions and millions and millions of people have embraced and loved, and I think that's become a little bit of a platform to launch this new game now.

The next move into the family-friendly direction will be with Lego Horizon Adventures, which will launch on PC, PS4, PS5, and the Nintendo Switch. This game will not feature the more violent elements that we've come to know from the franchise, and will be an exciting step for the company as a whole.
