Rumors are swirling that Red Dead Redemption 2 could be heading to Nintendo’s next console. But is there any truth to it?

Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most beloved games of the past decade. Its characters, story, and world have earned endless praise from fans, and rightfully so. Now, new rumors suggest that the epic Western adventure could soon make its way to Nintendo’s Switch 2, with recent reports from Digital Foundry adding even more fuel to the speculation.
Digital Foundry Fuels Rumors Of A Red Dead Redemption 2 Switch 2 Port
Known for its in-depth technical analysis and industry insight, Digital Foundry often examines the feasibility of upcoming hardware and game releases. In a recent episode of the popular Digital Foundry podcast, the team discussed the possibility of a Switch 2 port for Red Dead Redemption 2. Richard Leadbetter explained that the evidence behind the rumors appears credible, even if nothing has been officially confirmed.
John Linneman agreed and added that such a move would make sense from a financial perspective as well. It was mentioned that the Switch 2 version would likely be on the level of the PS4 Pro. However, they pointed out that Rockstar Games tends to work on its own schedule, which makes it difficult to predict when, or if, this version might actually arrive.
Possible Next-Gen Upgrades For PS5 And Xbox Series
Another rumor suggests that, in addition to the Switch 2 port, Rockstar Games is planning updated versions of Red Dead Redemption 2 for the PS5 and Xbox Series. These updates could include smoother 60 FPS gameplay, offering players a choice between performance and quality modes.
However, the quality mode would almost certainly be limited to 30 FPS. PSSR and FSR upscaling technologies are also being discussed as possible options to enhance the game’s visual performance. According to experts from Digital Foundry, even ray tracing could be on the table.

The Switch 2 Port — Ambitious But Possible
The foundation for all these rumors is the well-known leaker NateTheHate, who has built a reputation in the scene for several accurate predictions. Another indication of an upcoming announcement is that the Steam page for Red Dead Redemption 2 was recently updated, which fans often interpret as a sign that something new is on the horizon. However, the port would still be quite ambitious due to the sheer size of the game.
On last-gen consoles, the title required around 100 GB of storage, which is quite a lot for a console that only offers 256 GB of internal memory. Still, if the game can be sufficiently compressed, there would be no major technical obstacle standing in the way of a Switch 2 port.
Can We Dare To Be Hyped?
Leaks should always be taken with a grain of salt. As long as Rockstar has not officially confirmed anything, there is no way to say for sure. One thing is certain though, the fans are hyped. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a dearly loved game and players are just waiting for a reason to saddle up and return to the Wild West. Until then we will have to stay patient and see what Rockstar Games is cooking, because there is another game on the horizon that is probably keeping them busy.
