Hollow Knight: Silksong is officially set to release on September 4. Mark your calendars!

Hollow Knight: Silksong is finally breaking its long silence. At Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025, Team Cherry confirmed on stage that the long-awaited sequel will launch in 2025. The reveal came alongside brand-new gameplay footage, with the promise of more concrete details. And only one two days later, Team Cherry revealed that the game will be out on the 4th of September 2025.
A Major Reveal at Gamescom
The announcement opened Geoff Keighley’s Gamescom showcase, making Silksong the first major reveal of the night. While Team Cherry stopped short of giving a specific date then, the studio promised a dedicated Hollow Knight: Silksong – Special Announcement stream on 21 August 2025, where Team Cherry now shared the highly anticipated release date, as well as deeper gameplay insights
It’s the most substantial update we’ve seen since 2022, when a planned launch window quietly slipped away. After years of speculation, memes, and mounting fan impatience, Silksong is finally ready to leave development limbo.

The End of the Waiting Game
The news marks the end of an era defined by hype cycles and dashed expectations. For years, every Nintendo Direct, Xbox Showcase, or Summer Game Fest brought speculation that this time Silksong would appear – only to leave fans disappointed. Some even created ARG-style projects around tiny developer teases, highlighting just how starved the community was for real updates.
Now, the cycle of silence and teasing is broken. Not only is the game confirmed for release in September across Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, but fans at Gamescom 2025 are already getting hands-on time with a playable demo. In Australia, the game is also set to headline ACMI’s Game Worlds exhibit in Melbourne, giving visitors a rare behind-the-scenes look at design documents and an early playable build.
The Countdown to Hornet’s Adventure Begins
Silksong is not just another sequel – it carries the weight of one of the most beloved indie games of all time. Hollow Knight was praised for its intricate world design, deep lore, and razor-sharp gameplay, and expectations for its successor have only grown higher during the long silence. With Hornet stepping into the protagonist role, players are anticipating fresh mechanics, new environments, and even tougher challenges.
With the release around the corner, fans can finally look forward to concrete answers rather than endless speculation. After six years of waiting since its first reveal in 2019, Hollow Knight: Silksong is no longer just a meme or a dream.
Stay tuned, the long wait is almost over.
