On August 7, the open beta for Battlefield 6 began for many, and interest seems to have definitely been piqued.

The time has come: The open beta for Battlefield 6 is in full swing, and the hype is actually greater than anyone could have imagined. On Thursday, the game reached a peak player count of over 300,000. And the crazy thing is: This is only the early access version of the open beta.
The open beta, which is accessible to everyone, will be available on August 9 and 10 and from August 14 to 17. So it will be exciting to see if the numbers will rise again. And the hype seems to be justified. After all, most opinions about the game are already very positive, and even watching it seems to be fun for many.
Battlefield 6 has already surpassed 850,000 viewers on Twitch, more than triple the number of viewers for League of Legends. Even Call of Duty only reached a peak of 750,000 with Modern Warfare 2 in September 2022. Could it be that Battlefield is slowly overtaking Call of Duty?
Battlefield vs Call Of Duty
The two game series have long been rivals on the market. They both use a similar setting and principle, but are so different that they both had their raison d'être. Recently, however, Call of Duty seems to be increasingly upsetting its own community in particular.
For some time now, there has been recurring discussions that Call of Duty is losing sight of its roots. Many speculate that Activision is trying too hard to follow in the footsteps of Fortnite with increasingly bizarre skins and, above all, game modes that seem to have nothing to do with the grounded military concept, such as the recently released Gundam mode.
Most recently, even Shashank Uchil, design director of Battlefield 6, made a playful comment about this. He believes that it is important to remain grounded and that there is no need for something like Nicki Minaj in a game like this. He was referring to Nicki being a playable character in Call of Duty.
Back To The Roots
With Battlefield 6, EA and Dice seem to have understood that players just want to see what was already there perfected and built upon. They don't want random crazy modes or pointless skins to embellish the game. And indeed, EA seems to be delivering on all fronts, so much so that players think it all looks too good to be true.

Activision doesn't seem to be worried that the hype surrounding Battlefield 6 will have a negative impact on the upcoming Call of Duty 7. They think the franchise is “too big to fail,” and they may be right. Even the worst games in the franchise sell millions of copies.
But, Battlefield 6 has already made a huge impact, and the beta has only just begun. If this is an early indicator of the game's success, then we could be in for the best Battlefield yet. The full game releases on October 10, 2025.
