Battlefield 6 is taking a stand against over-the-top cosmetics, choosing realism over celebrity skins and flashy crossovers.

In a gaming landscape that is dominated by over-the-top cosmetics and pop culture crossovers, Battlefield 6 is choosing a different path – one rooted in realism.
Keeping Customization Grounded, Not Goofy
Design director Shashank Uchil summed it up bluntly:
“It has to be grounded... I don’t think it needs Nicki Minaj.”
That’s a not-so-subtle nod to Call of Duty, which famously introduced Nicki Minaj as a playable operator. But while other franchises chase viral skins, Battlefield 6 is returning to its military roots, aiming to recapture the tone of Battlefield 3 and 4 with authentic, believable cosmetics.
Despite ditching wild skins, customization isn’t going away. Players will still be able to show off unique gear, but within the framework of realistic military aesthetics. Producer Alexia Christofi explained,
“We want players to peacock a bit – look cool and feel expressive – but it has to fit the Battlefield universe.”
That balance of style and authenticity is central to Battlefield 6’s cosmetic system. There won’t be cartoon skins or Hollywood cameos, but players can still expect a variety of grounded options, from tactical camos to class-specific gear setups that look and feel immersive.
Visual Clarity Returns With Class-Based Design
Battlefield 6 is also bringing back the traditional four-class system – Recon, Assault, Engineer, and Support – and this choice impacts visual design, too. Each class has unique identifiers, like ghillie suits for Recons, to help players instantly recognize roles during combat.
Producer David Sirland noted that keeping skins grounded has gameplay advantages.
“It’s not rigid, but it needs to feel like it fits. Part of the reason we’re seeing positive feedback is that it reminds people of BF3 and BF4 – it just makes sense again.”
While Battlefield 6 will feature a Battle Pass and likely some form of premium content (including the teased "BF Pro" token), developers have confirmed there are no plans for crossovers or marketing tie-ins like those seen in Fortnite or Warzone.
Battlefield 6 launches October 10, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The open beta begins this weekend.
