Horror fans can look forward to a spooky adventure as early as 2026. The development studio Bowl of Tentacles is launching a new psychological horror game called Tenebrea.

The twist: the game's story is partly based on a true story.

What The Game Is About

Tenebrea is a psychological horror game played from a first-person perspective, set in a student dormitory in Valencia, Spain.

With a mix of mystery, horror, and detective work, you can get to the bottom of the story of the haunted house of Valencia as you play, although the game has been enriched with fictional elements.

As a player, you take on the role of Laura, a student who tries to uncover the secrets of the creepy house. A cell phone serves as both a flashlight and an EMF detector for tracking paranormal activity such as voices, whispers, or the presence of an uninvited guest. Prove yourself in the haunted house by solving puzzles without being distracted by paranormal encounters to bring the truth to light.

Based On A True Story

Sounds exciting? It gets even better.

The idea for the horror game is based on true events in a student dormitory in Valencia.

Residents and employees who stayed in that building have been reporting strange noises, shadows roaming the hallways, and objects moving on their own for more than 10 years. It has also been said that strange encounters occurred repeatedly.

The disturbing events in the building seemed to intensify when a janitor died while performing repairs after falling from a window. One night, two exchange students contacted the security guard because the TV in their room had turned on by itself. The light revealed the silhouette of a man standing at the foot of their bed. The security guard then realized that it was this very room where the janitor had died. As a result of this incident, the management of the house decided not to rent out the room anymore and closed it permanently.

All these creepy occurrences in the haunted house in Valencia were taken into account by the Bowl of Tentacles developers and integrated into the game in one way or another.

The story of the game itself is fictional, but the horror and atmosphere of the game are frighteningly close to reality.

Release Date And Platforms

An exact release date is not yet known, but the game has been announced for 2026, along with a teaser trailer.

Tenebrea will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam).
