The Sims goes to Hollywood! EA announced a movie adaption of one of their biggest franchise: The Sims. So do we get a realty TV show or what?
EA have now confirmed an upcoming Sims movie adaption. In a blog post, they announced that they were working in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios and Margot Robbie's production company, LuckyChap, to make the film.
They also announced the Executive Producers: Kate Herron, who directed the Loki series, and Briony Redman, who was a writer on Doctor Who.
Unfortunately, EA did not give any information about the plot of the movie. But Kate Gorman, EA's vice president and general manager of "The Sims" franchise, described the expectations they have in an interview with Variety:
We wanted the right partners and to make an impact the size of something like ‘Barbie’ is exactly what we want.
She also referenced the legacy of the now 24-year-old franchise and the memories of generations past.
I’m sure a pool without a ladder is somewhere in there, but we haven’t finalized any of those details. But that’s the idea, is to say that it lives within this space. It’s a nod to all of the amazing play and creation and fun that people have had over the last 25 years within ‘The Sims.
Because they want to give us more at their 25th anniversary celebration next year, we think that the movie will be released in 2026.
On paper, it sounds like a great project, but recent video game adaptations have a habit of being trash, so we shan't be holding our breath.
