Our Weekend's Finest: Clair Obscure Expedition 33

Clair Obscur is a rising star on the horizon right now. This French RPG has turned heads with its unique art direction, emotionally driven story, and one of the best soundtracks we’ve heard this year. In fact, the score already topped Billboard’s Classical and Classical Crossover charts earlier this month.

"Once a year, the Paintress wakes and paints upon her monolith. Paints her cursed number. And everyone past that age turns to smoke and fades away. Year by year, that number ticks down and more of us are erased. Tomorrow she’ll wake and paint “33.” And tomorrow we depart on our final mission - Destroy the Paintress, so she can never paint death again. We are Expedition 33."

If you're into games like Final Fantasy IX or Lost Odyssey, you'll feel right at home here — Clair Obscur wears its inspirations proudly, but adds its own surreal, artistic touch to the genre. The mix of turn-based and real-time combat just works — it feels super smooth, and the UI clearly takes inspiration from Persona 5, which totally raised the bar for brilliant UI design.

This weekend, we’re slowing things down with a cozy little gem. Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley is a peaceful adventure full of charm, music, and hand-drawn storybook vibes.

You play as Snufkin, setting out to restore harmony to Moominvalley with your harmonica, a bit of stealth, and help from some familiar faces. Along the way, you’ll meet over 50 quirky characters, solve musical puzzles, and enjoy a dreamy soundtrack made with Sigur Rós.

If you’re into relaxing games with heart, this one’s for you.

And that's all for this week! Thank you for reading The Weekend's Finest and come back next Friday for more!
