Now it's official. Conocord will be shut down due to bad numbers.
Not every major game performs well on launch. Especially, when it launches right next to other, bigger names. And that has once again been proven by the release of Concord.
Concord is Sony's exclusive hero-shooter that just launched on the August 23.
Game Studio Sees No Future
Game director Ryan Ellis shared on the PlayStation website that the studio made the call to shut down Concord on September 6, 2024. If you are one of the few buyers, you can official refund the game on PS5 and PC.
Ryan Ellis also said in the statement that they will try to "explore options, including those that will better reach our players."
Maybe they're not ready to say that they've shut it down completely, or we might get a Multiverse 2.0, which means we get a better version of Concord in the future. For now, we can say that the game is officially dead.
Low Sales And Even Lower Active Player Numbers
On August 23, Concord launched with underwhelming 697 players on Steam, as reported by IGN. As you can imagine, the current player numbers are even worse, with 46 players playing it as we speak, and a 24-hour peak of 119 players.
Liam Deane, who is the principal analyst at Omdia said:
The Steam numbers are so bad that even without the exact data on the PS5 side we can be pretty certain that the game is doing very badly.
The PS5 numbers seem to be just as bad. IGN spoke with Circana analyst, Matt Piscatella, who cited Circana’s Player Engagement Tracker, on Monday, August 26 as such:
Concord ranked 147th in US PS5 daily active players across all titles, with fewer than 0.2% of Monday's active PS5 players playing the game
Analyst Simon Carless estimated that Concord’s total sales are sitting around 10,000 units on Steam, and around 15,000 on PlayStation.
Have you played Concord, and if so, what did you think of it?
