A personalized calendar on Steam to never miss out on games again? Sounds like that should've been implemented years ago!

The new feature is designed to show you which games fit your playing habits, whether you’re always looking for something new or prefer to stick with one title for a while. With this update, Steam is focusing on smart recommendations instead of endless lists.

Steam Aims To Make Game Recommendations More Personal

Valve has unveiled the new "Personal Calendar," a feature that displays upcoming games you might be interested in through a clear, calendar-style overview.

The platform is responding to a familiar problem. The steadily growing number of games on Steam makes it difficult for many users to discover new favorites. With the calendar feature, Valve aims to make this process more structured and personal.

For Steam, this step would be a logical next move. The platform already offers personalized sections based on previous play behavior. The planned calendar integration combines these recommendations with scheduling and individual preferences, creating a more personal and organized experience.

How Steam Uses Player Data To Improve Recommendations

Steam’s new recommendation system will focus primarily on playtime. Games that players have spent more time with will carry more weight than those that were only briefly tried. The entries are updated daily to ensure the list stays current. To keep the view organized, the calendar only displays entries on weekdays, since most releases traditionally take place during the week.

Users can choose to see anywhere between 10 and 500 recommendations. Naturally, higher numbers reduce the accuracy of the suggestions. Existing filter settings are carried over. In addition, the calendar visually distinguishes between upcoming and already released games, making it easier to keep track of everything.

The feature is available even without the Beta Client and can be activated directly through your Steam account. As part of Steam Labs, Valve is currently collecting feedback from the community to further refine the system. Whether the feature will eventually become a permanent part of the Steam client will depend on the results of this testing phase.

An Experiment With Potential

With the new recommendation system, Valve is testing how far personalization on Steam can go. The approach of using gameplay data to deliver more accurate suggestions shows that the platform is putting a stronger focus on individual user experiences. Whether it will eventually become a permanent part of the Steam client will largely depend on how well the feature is received by the community and whether it truly makes discovering new games easier.

One thing is certain: if the experiment proves successful, it could significantly change how players interact with their game libraries. It would mark a shift away from endless browsing toward targeted recommendations that match players’ tastes more precisely than ever before.

What do you think? Will you use the new feature? Let us know in the comments!
