The gaming sales data for 2024 has been released, and it shows interesting developments for the two main competitors, Xbox and PS5.
The age-old question of which console is best has plagued gamers for decades now. But new data from Cricana has revealed that PlayStation seem to be winning the war, at least with the current generation.
While sales data doesn't say anything about subjective experience with a console, it does show numbers for popularity. The new gaming sales data for 2024 gives insight into the topic.
PlayStation vs. Xbox: Sales Data Reveals Clear Market Leader
The first eye-catcher is, that the PlayStation 5 outperforms its predecessor. In the first 3.5 years since its release, the PS5 has outsold the PS4 by 8%.
On the other side, sadly, the grass is not so green. The Xbox Series consoles performed 13% worse than the Xbox One over the same period, and they also sit behind the Xbox 360 in sales.
For the month of May 2024, the Xbox Series sits in third place in terms of most sold units, followed by the Nintendo Switch in second and the PS5 in first place.
The “most significant” drop in sales was experienced by the Nintendo Switch, with a 30% decrease since 2023.
