Influencer Ash Trevino, accused of dating up to 75 prisoners, pleads guilty to welfare fraud and receives two years of supervision.
Ash Trevino built an online following around a dating life that rarely involved anyone who could leave his building without permission. Known as an “inmate hopper,” the Texas influencer openly discussed her relationships with prisoners and recently released men.
The nickname may actually undersell it. Prosecutors claim Trevino was romantically involved with approximately 50 to 75 Texas inmates over several years, including men convicted of aggravated robbery and murder.
That allegation emerged through an unrelated legal case. On August 5, the 37-year-old creator pleaded guilty to fraud charges connected to government benefits, accepting a deal that allowed her to avoid additional jail time.
The Influencer Who Made Prison Romance Her Brand
Trevino, whose legal name is Ashley Lopez-Trevino, attracted hundreds of thousands of followers by turning relationships, arguments and family controversies into entertainment. Dating incarcerated men became the hook that separated her from countless other livestream personalities.
Court filings revealed how extensive those relationships may have been. Prosecutors alleged that Trevino communicated romantically with between 50 and 75 inmates in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, several of whom were serving sentences for violent crimes.
Dating prisoners was not illegal, and Trevino did not plead guilty to anything involving those relationships. Prosecutors included the claims while describing her conduct and online activity during the period examined by the court.
The Fraud Case Behind the Viral Number
Trevino pleaded guilty to welfare fraud and fraudulent securing of document execution. Authorities alleged that she concealed or failed to disclose income while applying for or receiving SNAP and Medicaid benefits through the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.
According to the indictment, the conduct continued from May 2019 until July 2024. The state claimed that deception allowed Trevino to receive benefits for which she either did not qualify or was not entitled to receive at that level.
Her plea agreement requires her to repay $16,799.95 to the commission. She was also sentenced to two years of community supervision, 120 hours of community service, an anti-theft program and financial counseling.
From Promising a Fight to Accepting a Deal
Police arrested Trevino in Venus, Texas, in December 2025 after confirming that she had two active felony warrants. She was booked into the Ellis County Jail before posting a $15,000 bond.
After her release, footage circulated showing Trevino laughing as she returned to social media. She told followers that she had hired an attorney and intended to fight the charges. Three months later, she was briefly arrested again after prosecutors accused her of violating her bond conditions by purchasing and consuming alcohol. Her attorneys denied the allegations.
Prosecutors also criticized what they called “panhandling” on TikTok, alleging that Trevino requested donations before disclosing health information about a dependent. Court filings additionally referenced sexually explicit videos and livestreams, although none of that conduct resulted in separate convictions.
Trevino has now traded her promised courtroom fight for two years of supervision and a five-figure repayment. The allegation that she dated as many as 75 inmates will dominate the headlines, but her case carries a fitting warning for creators who broadcast everything: investigators can follow the content too.
