The creator Tokyo Sims was attacked during a livestream in Tokyo's famous nightlife district Kabukichō.
During an IRL stream in Tokyo's famous Kabukichō entertainment district, the creator behind the Tokyo Sims channel became involved in a physical confrontation with two men. Known for showcasing the cultural differences between Japan and the West, the streamer had set out to explore Tokyo's nightlife when the situation suddenly escalated.
The clip quickly went viral on Reddit, where it sparked a wider discussion about Tokyo's notorious street touts.
Tokyo Sims Attacked During IRL Livestream
The viral clip shows Kole, the creator behind the Tokyo Sims channel, walking through Kabukichō in Tokyo. At one point, two men approach him and begin questioning both him and a woman standing nearby. Whether the woman has any personal relationship with Kole has not been publicly confirmed.
Realizing the situation might escalate, Kole briefly stops so the camera can capture what is happening. One of the men asks why he is filming them. Remaining calm, Kole explains that he is livestreaming and responds to demands to delete the footage by saying:
"It's a livestream. You can't just delete it."
Kole then states that the woman is part of his streaming group and that he has no intention of ending the broadcast. Moments later, the confrontation turns physical as one of the men knocks his camera away. The same man then claims to be a streamer himself and says he will feature Kole in one of his own streams.
Kole eventually walks away from the confrontation. The two men continue following him for a short distance, defending their actions while accusing him of being racist.
Why Did the Situation Escalate? Where the Men “Touts”?
Many Reddit users believe the two men were touts, a term commonly used for street recruiters who approach tourists and try to lure them into bars, clubs, or other nightlife venues in exchange for commission.
These recruiters have long been associated with tourist scams in Kabukichō. Visitors have repeatedly reported being taken to establishments with heavily inflated prices or pressured into paying excessive bills. The district has been known for this issue for years, and many travel guides advise tourists to avoid engaging with touts altogether.
Based on what is shown in the video, filming the two men appears to have intensified the situation. However, whether that was the direct cause of the confrontation cannot be confirmed.
Reddit Reacts to the Viral Clip
The video has spread far beyond the Tokyo Sims community, generating thousands of reactions on Reddit. Many users sympathized with Kole, praising how calmly he handled the confrontation despite the growing tension.
Others shared similar experiences with suspected touts in Kabukichō, warning tourists not to engage with them under any circumstances. Several commenters claimed that these encounters can quickly escalate if recruiters are ignored, rejected, or filmed.
Not everyone sided with the streamer, however. Some Reddit users argued that Kole should have left the area sooner instead of continuing to film, suggesting that he unnecessarily exposed himself to additional risk.
What do you think? Should Kole have handled the situation differently, or do the aggressive street recruiters bear full responsibility? Let us know in the comments!
