Age restrictions on content can be important to prevent young kids from seeing things that they probably shouldn't. It's the same idea as having an age restriction on a video game or a movie. When you upload a video to YouTube, it is up to the platform to decide if it is suitable for all audiences. Now, one of Jacksepticeye's videos got age restricted. Here is what that means, and why it is a valid concern.

Jacksepticeye And The Playthrough That Started The Discussion

Jacksepticeye has been uploading YouTube videos for a very long time. Known for his entertaining gaming content, the Irish YouTuber often posts himself playing through the most exciting new video game releases: and since the newest part of Resident Evil came out in early 2026, he decided to play through it on his YouTube, too.

His fourth episode of playing through Resident Evil: Requiem, however, got age restricted – and it is the only one out of the five that got the restriction, even though the entire franchise is known to be very graphic and not suitable for children. In a video addressing the age restriction, he says:

"To come around and tell me afterwards that it's because of graphic visuals and violence in the game while also not pointing to any of it. You're just saying oh, the game is violent. Like obviously, it's a Resident Evil game. All of them are violent."

And that also sums up the YouTuber's issue with the restriction: If the whole game is violent, why does only one video get restricted?

Repercussions Of Age Restrictions

The reason why this is a big deal in the first place is because age restrictions prevent people from watching the videos if they have not verified that the owner of the account if of a certain age. That means less people watching the video and less revenue – and appeals are not guaranteed to give you any more insight. In his video, the YouTuber even explains that he reached out to a YouTube representative and that their answer has not helped him understand the decision either.

Jack also makes it clear that this matter is not about clicks for him. Despite the age restriction, part 4 of his playthrough still got well over 1 million views. He adds:

"Now don't get me wrong: The views on the Resident Evil 9 series are absolutely amazing and I'm very very happy with them. This is more for educational purposes, more so than me bemoaning what happened to me."
