League of Legends Patch 14.7 Patch Notes: Skarner Rework, Buffs & Nerfs

LoL Patch 14.7 is going to be a fun one with brand-new April Fools skins, as well as some much-needed balance to the game.

LoL Patch 14.7 is going to be the next big League of Legends patch to watch out for. This patch comes just in time for some April Fools tomfoolery, as well as much-needed balance changes to the game. In the previous patch, Riot made sure to tackle some issues which players had with the ADC position.

Now Riot is going to be making some more changes to make sure that the balance of the game is decent. We all know League of Legends will never truly be perfectly balanced.

LoL Patch 14.7: Skarner Rework Revealed

The Skarner Visual and Gameplay Update (VGU) has been a long time coming and now it's finally here. Riot went ham on this rework, giving the champion way better visuals and insane skin updates. His whole kit has been improved and modernized, giving the champion some skill expression, while staying simple and easy to play.

Skarner Rework: New Abilities

Skarner's ultimate, which was his most iconic ability, has been upgraded to now be an AoE ability. You'll also be able to fight, making him a juggernaut rather than just a simple tank. So let's go over his new kit so you can get an image of the scorpion.

Passive - Threads of Vibration

  • Skarner's attacks, Shattered Earth, Upheaval and Impale apply Quacking to enemies. Enemies with three stacks of Quacking take % Max HP damage over time.

Q - Shattered Earth / Upheaval

  • Skarner rips a rock out of the ground and uses it to empower his next three attacks with bonus damage, range and attack speed. His third attack slams the rock into his target, slowing and dealing significant bonus damage, ending the effect.
  • Skarner may re-cast Upheaval and throw the rock as a projectile that explodes on the first enemy hit, dealing the same damage and slow, ending the effect.

W - Seismic Bastion

  • Skarner gains a shield and slams into the ground, releasing a shockwave that damages and slows nearby enemies.

E - Ixtal's Impact

  • Skarner charges forward, ignoring terrain and grabs the first enemy champion or large monster he collides with. He may then carry them a short way, damaging and stunning them if they collide with the terrain.

R - Impale

  • Skarner impales up to three enemy champions, damaging and suppressing them. Skarner gains bonus movement speed for a short time and carries them with him until the end of the effect.

Along with the new abilities, Skarner has also gotten some new lore, moving the champion out of Shurima and into Ixtal.

LoL Patch 14.7 Hotfix Changes To Help Skarner In The Jungle

Riot have also revealed that Skarner needed some hotfix changes after his VGU went live. The champion was much better in the top lane than anticipated, so the devs wanted to shift him back into the jungle with the changes.

Riot Phrixzon also revealed that they wanted to change some things on his Q without losing any impact. He stated that they're "trying to thread the needle between impactful and adding sufficient counterplay. [They] want this ability to hit like a truck and having Skarner channel for a bit to let that be fair is a work in progress".

    • For additional clarity this would be 10 minions over 5 minutes if two people on your team have World Atlas, then 7 minions over 5 minutes if three people have it, etc.

April Fools Skins Coming In LoL Patch 14.7

Not only is Skarner getting a bunch of upgraded skins in LoL Patch 14.7, but Riot is also going to celebrate April Fools with a bunch of random, but hilarious skins. These are a breath of fresh air, with many fans loving the new visuals for their main champions.

LoL Patch 14.7 has released on April 3, 2024 with the brand-new skins, the Skarner rework as well as the usual buffs and nerfs we see.
