The Jujutsu Kaisen Shibuya Arc was filled with fighting and chaos. Multiple fan-favorite characters either lost their lives or have never been seen since — manga readers will know . With so much happening and a tight animation schedule, some of the biggest moments didn't have the time to truly shine according to animators, and the recent release of the JJK Blu-ray proves that.

In the recent release of the Jujutsu Kaisen Blu-ray, the Sukuna vs. Mahoraga fight was refined by the animators. The extended version shows just how epic a true fight can be, when the animators are given the time and resources to create something incredible.

Jujutsu Kaisen Fans Furious After Extended Sukuna Vs. Mahoraga Fight Scene

Episode 17 of the second Jujutsu Kaisen season was already considered to be one of the best of the series, with an intense fight between Sukuna and the Shinigami Mahoraga. What had already been revealed, when it aired back in November 2023, was that there was a lot cut out of the fight that animators didn't have time to finish.

On March 20, 2024 the official Blu-ray for Volume 7 and 8 was released in Japan and with it, an extended cut of the episode was also revealed. In this revised edition, several minutes of additional footage have been added to the fight, which anime fans are hailing as some of the best fight sequences they'd ever seen.

Fans are also praising the animators who, amidst an insane schedule, managed to create and refine the scenes, adding in more cuts for the viewers of the Blu-ray version of the show.

Not only are fans praising the animators, but they're also fuming over the grueling animation schedule, which has led to shows missing out on peak animation. The MAPPA animators themselves have expressed their dissatisfaction with the schedule. An insider even explained that the episode was only 30% finished when it aired.

This reworked episode just shows that anime fans do value quality over quantity, and giving animators more time to work on their craft could heighten the quality of upcoming shows to incredible peaks.

With Studio Ghibli's second Oscar win, we know it's possible for anime to reach great heights, now the industry just has to give the animators a chance to show it off with better working conditions.
