Destin Daniel Cretton is not new to the MCU. Cretton has already turned heads, in his first MCU film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which featured some impressive camera work and fight choreography.

Since Jon Watts, who directed the first three MCU Spider-Man films, has left the studio, it is now Cretton's turn to make the magic happen.

Spider-Man 4 Boasts Strong Cast Already

As stated in an article from The Hollywood Reporter, the first production stages of the sequel are starting in early 2025. Some old faces will return, with Tom Holland as Peter Parker, and the screen-writing duo – Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.

The studio is still waiting on Cretton to sign the contract, but it is likely that it will happen soon enough.

Destin Daniel Cretton was already set to direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, before the movie was canceled due to controversy surrounding Kang's actor.

Avengers 5, now Avengers: Doomsday, will be directed by the Russo brothers, who are already MCU-veterans by now.

Cretton is already working on Marvel's live action Wonder Man series, and will be back to direct Shang-Chi 2 as well. It seems that Spider-Man 4 will take priority before these projects, so it is unclear when we will see the Shang-Chi sequel.

Destin Daniel Cretton is also set to direct a live-action Naruto movie.
