MCU Spider-Man director Jon Watts speaks on why he left the studio after Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The MCU Spider-Man trilogy repainted the character of Peter Parker and moved him into our modern MCU timeline.
With No Way Home, the trilogy came to a very satisfying conclusion, with Tom Holland's character ending up in a similar situation as the Spider-Man we know and love.
Now, director Jon Watts has broken his silence about the reason he left the MCU.
Stopping At The Peak
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jon Watts told the magazine why he left the MCU.
The fact that Spider-Man: No Way Home became one of the biggest MCU movies of all time, grossing over $1 billion at the box office, would already be enough to stop, but Watts stated:
That was such a specific moment in time, and the reaction to that movie was just so unbelievable. It’s never going to be like this, ever again.
You have to give Watts credit for acknowledging the height of this trilogy and leaving at the peak of its popularity.
He was originally planned to direct the upcoming Avengers Doomsday and Secret Wars, but stepped off the production.
The director has now moved on to other projects. He is currently working on the upcoming movie Wolfs, which is a thriller comedy, starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney.
You can definitely see that his involvement in the MCU has landed him some great pull in Hollywood, as he gets to work with these legendary actors now.
