All Star Wars Movies Ranked From Worst To Best

Over the years, the Star Wars universe has seen many successes and, in some cases, failures. Some films in the series are true masterpieces and are recognized as absolute classics to this day, while others are considered weak and in some cases almost an insult to the franchise. Disney naturally plans to exploit the brand as much as possible, which is why new Star Wars projects are constantly being brought to life. After three film trilogies, Disney is currently concentrating mainly on series such as Andor, Ahsoka and The Mandalorian. In our gallery, however, we focus exclusively on the films and give you some friendly tips on which films you can skip with a clear conscience...

The Rise of Skywalker

11. Star Wars: Episode 9 - The Rise of Skywalker

There's no redeeming this disaster. In an effort to placate internet trolls, JJ Abrams and his team discarded all the good elements of the sequel trilogy and focused on the worst parts of Star Wars. "Somehow, Palpatine returned" has quickly become one of the worst movie quotes of all time, and that's just the beginning. This film is a glaring admission that there was no plan from the start, making it a definite miss. | © Walt Disney Productions / Lucasfilm

Solo a star wars story

10. Solo: A Star Wars Story

Solo: A Star Wars Story was a surprisingly decent movie, especially considering how poorly it was received before it released. It was also swept under the radar, and ended up being a movie that I, at least, didn't see until after it had actually left the cinemas. Still, it was kind-of pointless, which is why it's so low on this list. | © Walt Disney Productions / Lucasfilm

Attack of the Clones

9. Star Wars: Episode 2 - Attack of the Clones

This one gets a lot of hate, and it's understandable. Overall, it's not a great film, and even the good stuff can't really save it. Not the hilarity of that "sand" quote, not Christopher Lee, not Obi-Wan and certainly not Anakin. What a tedious, boring, overly long, and bizarrely convoluted film. Still has some highlights though. | © Walt Disney Productions / Lucasfilm

The Phantom Menace

8. Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace

"The Phantom Menace" avoids the last-place position on this list primarily due to the presence of two exceptional Star Wars characters: Liam Neeson's Qui-Gon Jinn and Ray Park's Darth Maul. While these characters are undoubtedly impressive, the film itself fails to meet expectations, suffering from poor dialogue, a convoluted plot, and an overall sense of tedium. Despite these shortcomings, it does offer an excellent final battle sequence. | © Walt Disney Productions / Lucasfilm

Revenge of the Sith

7. Star Wars: Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith

Finishing off the prequel trilogy, this movie receives more love than it perhaps deserves. Endlessly grim, with a dull and lackluster script, and painfully long, this movie is admittedly redeemed by Anakin's descent into madness, which is undeniably entertaining. It also features many great action set-pieces, which is a plus. And yes, while the last fight may be somewhat silly, it's undeniably a lot of fun. | © Walt Disney Productions / Lucasfilm

The Force Awakens

6. Star Wars: Episode 7 - The Force Awakens

The Force Awakens was a perfect beginning for the new era of Star Wars that we find ourselves in. Introducing us to Han Solo once more, and giving us a whole lot of great action, The Force Awakens was a fun and colourful Star Wars film that brought the series to the modern world with a great deal of bombast and love. Sure, it heavily relies on call-backs and references, but that worked for the first film in a new trilogy. | © Walt Disney Productions / Lucasfilm

Rogue One

5. Rogue One

It's indeed remarkable how Rogue One managed to take a story where the outcome was already known and make it compelling. Finally, a Star Wars movie that stands out as truly good. With a great cast, an exciting plot, and Mads Mikkelsen, what's not to love? However, while I personally didn't find much of it appealing and would rate it lower, the last 15 minutes or so completely change the game. That final stretch is exceptionally well-done and elevates the movie from being mediocre to being one of the best Star Wars films since the 80s. | © Walt Disney Productions / Lucasfilm

Return of the Jedi

4. Star Wars: Episode 6 - Return of the Jedi

Return of the Jedi concluded the original Star Wars trilogy with an epic finale that has cemented its place in cinema history. Few things are as beloved as the way George Lucas wrapped up Luke Skywalker's journey, and there are numerous moments in this film that remain iconic to this day. And yes, the Ewoks are great—deal with it. | © Walt Disney Productions / Lucasfilm

The Last Jedi

3. Star Wars: Episode 8 - The Last Jedi

This movie faced excessive criticism and highlighted how conservative the Star Wars franchise, and much of its fan base, can be. The notion of abandoning the past and exploring new directions was so unsettling for many that this film became a central focus of an absurd cultural war. The loud, negative discourse overshadowed the fantastic action, some of the most powerful and emotional character moments and performances in the entire series, and, alongside Rogue One, the only new film in the franchise that dared to introduce original ideas. However, the casino scene was bad, and we won't defend it. | © Walt Disney Productions / Lucasfilm

A New Hope

2. Star Wars: Episode 4 - A New Hope

The first Star Wars movie is still one of the best. Introducing us to the characters and world that we have come to love over the years, A New Hope is still a fantastic start to the series. Sure, it's a little dated, but the fantastic cast, brilliant Sci-Fi design and gripping atmosphere still hold up. | © Walt Disney Productions / Lucasfilm

The Empire Strikes Back

1. Star Wars: Episode 5 - The Empire Strikes Back

Many people say that The Empire Strikes Back is a little over-rated, but I firmly disagree. This is a movie that took what was incredible about the first movie, turned down the cheese and found the perfect tone for Star Wars, a darker and more brooding drama that is still remembered today. I mean, that classic moment? Still great. And how many other iconic locations and moments are in here? Hoth, Dagobah, Bespin? Brilliant film and the clear highlight of the Star Wars franchise . | © Walt Disney Productions / Lucasfilm

Star Wars has indeed experienced a rollercoaster of highs and lows over the years, hasn't it? From the immense success of the original trilogy to the divisive reception of the prequels, and the mixed reactions to the more recent films, it's like a journey through time.

After three film trilogies, Disney is currently focused on shows like Andor, Ahsoka, Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Mandalorian or the upcoming The Acolyte. However, here we just focus on the movies and tell you, which ones are due a re-watch and which ones you should maybe skip.
