The UGR is one of the few weapons we received for BOCW after Vanguard was released. The year 2 weapons, although few and far between, are usually very powerful in Call of Duty. The UGR does indeed have some compelling stats and a remarkable TTK, but it has one fatal flaw: the magazine size. Hence, it's the AS-VAl of SMGs.
The UGR is therefore a weapon ideally suited to solos or duos, but not for trios or quads. So if you play a lot of solos, this could be your new favorite SMG. Here's the best attachment setup for the UGR, including a full loadout to use it with.
How To Unlock The UGR
The UGR has to be unlocked by completing one of three challenges. You only have to complete one of the three challenges, and the challenges can be unlocked in Warzone, Black Ops Cold War Multiplayer, and Black Ops Cold War Zombies. Here are the challenges:
- Warzone: Use an SMG to kill an enemy revealed by your Spy Plane, UAV, or Field Mic in 15 different matches.
- Black Ops Cold War Multiplayer: Use an SMG to kill an enemy revealed by your Spy Plane, UAV, or Field Mic in 15 different matches.*
- Black Ops Cold War Zombies: Kill 1,000 zombies using an Epic rarity or better SMG.
*In the case of the multiplayer challenge, you need to complete the entire match for your progress to save. If you quit out of the game early, then you will lose all progress towards the challenge, unlike doing the challenge in Warzone or Zombies.
The Best UGR Attachment Setup

Component | Attachment |
Muzzle | Sound Suppressor |
Barrel | 10.7" Task Force |
Laser | Tiger Team Spotlight |
Underbarrel | Bruiser Grip |
Magazine | Explosive Flechettes |
We need the extra ammo from the Explosive Fléchettes, but at 36 rounds max, it's still cripplingly small. So, we'll need to build the weapon as more of a clean-up gun, or an SMG for pushing on buildings. Therefore, we've taken the usual attachments for mobility when building a BOCW SMG: the Tiger Team Spotlight, the Bruiser Grip, and the lightweight suppressor. The Task Force is still the best barrel despite limiting mobility because its recoil control benefits are just so strong.
The Best Secondary, Grenades & Perks For A UGR Loadout
The Best Secondary Weapon For The UGR

There's a ton of great options we could have picked for our main weapon. Given that we have an SMG as a secondary, it needs to be an AR, but there are dozens of strong ARs right now. The best ARs for long range right now include the STG, the FARA, the XM4, and even the old Grau. But we've gone with the FARA because it's the easiest to use and most reliable of the weapons mentioned.
The build is conventional for BOCW ARs. Everything is aimed at making sustained full-auto fire controllable from a distance. That means big mags, great recoil control, and decent optics.
The Best Equipment For The UGR
Lethal | Semtex |
Tactical | Snapshot Grenades |
Snapshot grenades are perfect if you can get Restock on your second loadout. For this first loadout, you'll need Overkill to get the FARA with your UGR, but after that focus on getting Restock. With this precious Perk 2, you'll guarantee that you can enter a fight with Snapshots and Semtex, and with an SMG that is immensely valuable. This basically means you have wall hacks going into every fight.
The Best Perks For The UGR
Perk 1 | E.O.D. |
Perk 2 | Overkill |
Perk 3 | Amped |
As we mentioned, we need Overkill on the first loadout but on your second, take Restock. Alongside these perks, you want to focus on close-range combat with the UGR, so we advise E.O.D. to help survive Claymores and Trip Mines on the push, and Amped, so you can swap between your weapons more quickly.
