Is Twitch Dying? Twitch's Biggest Streamer Just Left for YouTube

Ludwig has taken his 270 thousand followers to... redder pastures: Twitch's number one streamer is moving to YouTube, and you have to be worried about Twitch at this point.

So, it's no secret that Twitch has been in a bit of a rut. In fact, calling it 'a bit of a rut' is an understatement. Twitch flat-out had an existential crisis after Amouranth's boobs, Indiefoxx farts, hot-tubs, and leggings started dominating the meta. Then, the whole music copyright issue started, and slowly, but surely, YouTube Gaming was looking like the safe haven for all streamers. Enter DrDisrespect, CouRage, Nadeshot, TimTheTatman and DrLupo all switching over to YouTube, and even Ray Charles would start to see a trend forming. Now, with Ludwig abandoning the purple mothership, we can't help but wonder:

Ludwig's Leaving Twitch: Is the Platform Dying?

Of course, we can't answer that question, but if I were a betting man, I'd put my gaming-streaming money on YouTube becoming the go-to game-streaming platform. Twitch seemingly has lost the battle to nudity, IRL-content, and ASMR streams and seems closer to a fan-service platform that caters to all interests, rather than a dedicated gaming platform.

As for Ludwig, the move is probably inspired by big bucks. Both DrLupo and TimTheTatman have made it clear, that the switch to YouTube has given them financial security for life. Plus, Ludwig already has over 2 million followers on his YouTube channel, and is likely not going to miss a beat once he starts streaming on the new platform.

The question is: Who's next? Will Pokimane make the move to YouTube? xQc? Only time will tell, but it sure feels like Twitch is only 2-3 streamers abandoning ship away from having to change their branding from gaming to... well... something else.
