This Game Is Zelda With a Mouse, And I Love It

Yacht Club Games, the developers behind Shovel Knight, are working on a new IP that has serious Zelda vibes: Mina the Hollower. Here's what we know.

If you know and love old-school Zelda, you kind of know and will love Mina the Hollower: Top-down, pixel-art, action-adventure... all the 8-bit aesthetic from the past days, except that this is a brand-new game by a developer that made its name by making the old-school great again.

What Is Mina the Hollower?

It's a "bone-chilling adventure", according to the devs. That means, it's a top-down action adventure game, that might have pixel-graphics, but actually runs at 60 frames per second. But... best to have a look at it for yourself:

The game is currently undergoing its Kickstarter campaign, where it already reached its goal. Now, if you're thinking 'wait a minute, they made a sh*t-ton of money with Shovel Knight, why are they taking this to Kickstarter?', then... well, you're thinking what I'm thinking. Obviously, though, there are two reasons: Number one, you don't make money by spending money, and, number two, they actually want to involve the community this way:

We want your feedback, collaboration, and support in making Mina the Hollower the best game it can possibly be. That’s why we’re returning to our roots and kicking off Mina the Hollower’s development as a Kickstarter campaign. Though we’re financing a majority of this project ourselves, we hope we can create a more expansive game this way. More importantly, we want to build a community around Kickstarter, much like we did with Shovel Knight.

See, there you go. They want to keep it in the family. Plus, they're investing some of their own dough, so it's all fair and square. There's no release date for Mina the Hollower yet, but it will come to PC first, and Switch, PlayStation and Xbox later. Interesting trivia to end this one: Shovel Knight was released 14 months after its Kickstarter campaign finished, so take that into consideration, if you're impatient to get your hands on Mina the Hollower.
