Are you sick and tired of hearing about Grand Theft Auto and the bad gameplay from the trilogy? You want something fresh, exciting that can give you a similar feeling in a completely different manner? Then look no further than the Yakuza series.

Developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio stated in an interview that the eighth installment of the Yakuza series is in the works.

Yakuza 8 in Development

In an interview with Famitsu, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio director Masayoshi Yokoyama stated that Yakuza 8 is currently in development. He explained that he is not able to talk much about the next installment of the series, but that it will take place a few years after Yakuza: Like a Dragon.

The series will likely follow Ichiban Kasuga. This is a well-known character from the previous Yakuza story, as well as The Legend of Ichiban Kasuga: Part 1 in Ryu ga Gotoku Online.

We do expect some more dancing scenes and singing scenes to be a part of the plot though. Can’t have a Yakuza game without heading to the disco or karaoke room right?

When Will Yakuza 8 Be Released?

A release date is not yet known. Fans can expect the game to take a while though. The latest Yakuza game was only released a year ago in 2020 and the developers are currently going through a change in personnel.

Yakuza creator Toshihiro Nagoshi and frequent series director Daisuke Sato will be leaving Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. The developer grew over the last 10 years to have over 300 employees and director Masayoshi Yokoyama stated that the change in management will likely shake things up, but that personnel changes don’t have too much of an impact and won’t change the focus of the games.

Since Yakuza 8 will likely still take a while to release this will be the first next-gen release of the developer.
