Mulan may not look like the most musical Disney Princess at first glance, but she quietly pulls off an impressive soundtrack trick. She has vocals in all four major character songs used within the story: “Honor to Us All,” “Reflection,” “I’ll Make a Man Out of You,” and “A Girl Worth Fighting For.” Even when Shang and the soldiers are technically running the number, Mulan still gets a line. Cropped tangled rapunzel — 2. Rapunzel is the only Disney princess that doesn’t wear any blue at any moment

Blue is practically unofficial Disney Princess uniform territory, appearing prominently on Cinderella, Belle, Jasmine, Aurora, and plenty of others. Rapunzel goes in a completely different direction throughout *Tangled*, with her signature wardrobe built around lavender, pink, and purple instead. That color palette instantly separates her from the older princess designs and fits the film’s warm, storybook look. Disney princesses attend an absurd number of royal parties, banquets, weddings, and celebrations, yet alcohol is usually treated like it does not exist. *The Princess and the Frog* is a little more grown-up about its New Orleans setting, with Tiana briefly appearing with what is presented as champagne during the festivities. While Pocahontas barely needs a wardrobe department, Tiana seems determined to keep one permanently employed. Depending on how separate variations are counted, she appears in roughly thirteen different looks throughout *The Princess and the Frog*, covering childhood clothes, work uniforms, party dresses, coats, wedding attire, and her famous green princess gown. Most Disney Princess movies eventually provide their heroine with a second dress, a disguise, formalwear, pajamas, or an elaborate transformation outfit. Pocahontas gets none of that in her original film. Her one-shouldered tan dress remains her primary costume from the opening scenes through the finale, with accessories like her necklace providing the visual changes instead. Birds have been bothering, helping, dressing, serenading, and generally following Disney heroines around since Snow White wandered into the forest. Raya breaks that familiar pattern. *Raya and the Last Dragon* gives her dragons, monkeys, an enormous Tuk Tuk, and assorted creatures across Kumandra, but birds never become part of her personal entourage. Aurora spends plenty of time moving between cottages, forests, and castles, but we never really see her traveling the way later Disney Princesses do. There is no horse like Mulan’s Khan, canoe like Pocahontas’, magic carpet like Jasmine’s, or ridiculously useful giant pill bug like Raya’s Tuk Tuk. Aurora mostly gets around on foot, while major journeys happen outside her control or off-screen. Sleeping Beauty Aurora 2 — 9. Aurora is the only Disney princess that doesn’t interact with the villain

Aurora and Maleficent are visually inseparable from *Sleeping Beauty*, yet the movie never gives them a real conversation. Maleficent curses Aurora when she is an infant, then spends years hunting for her while Aurora grows up completely unaware of who she is. Even the spinning-wheel sequence is essentially a supernatural trance rather than an exchange between them. Linda Larkin delivers Jasmine’s dialogue in *Aladdin*, but when “A Whole New World” begins, the voice audiences hear belongs to Lea Salonga. Disney separated the princess’s speaking and singing performances because Larkin was cast primarily for her acting, while Salonga supplied the soaring vocals the duet required. The transition is remarkably seamless, which is probably why plenty of viewers never notice it. Watching Jasmine kiss Jafar feels uncomfortable for a reason: it is supposed to. She is not suddenly attracted to Agrabah’s power-hungry sorcerer; she is stalling him so Aladdin can reach the lamp. Jasmine recognizes that Jafar’s ego is one of his easiest weaknesses to exploit and weaponizes his obsession against him. The scene makes her the rare Disney Princess to actually kiss her movie’s villain, but the more interesting detail is why she does it. Snow White’s exact age is never announced in the movie, but early production material described Disney’s first princess as fourteen years old, which is why that age has followed the character for decades. She is fleeing an adult who wants her dead, living alone with strangers, and dreaming about romance while still extraordinarily young. Sleep is strangely common in Disney Princess stories. Snow White gets poisoned into it, Aurora builds an entire brand around it, while other heroines are simply shown waking up or heading to bed. Belle somehow skips the whole thing in *Beauty and the Beast*. We see her reading, eating, exploring, escaping, arguing, dancing, crying, and surviving wolf attacks, but never actually asleep.
