Baldur’s Gate 3: Companion Ages You Didn't Know

1-11

Bg3 companion ages

They're HOW old?!

Baldur’s Gate 3 throws a bunch of amazing, magically traumatized people into your camp – but how old are they, really? The game doesn’t always spell it out, but between lore, dialogue, and a bit of deduction, we can get a pretty good sense of where each companion falls on the timeline. Here’s what we know. We've got everything from early 20s to... wait, 350 years!? | © Larian Studios

Minsc

Minsc

Minsc returns in Baldur’s Gate 3 more than a century after his original debut – but thanks to being petrified for about 70 years, he hasn’t aged quite like the rest of us. He was already an adult in 1368 DR, making him at least 67 by the time BG3 rolls around. Still, for a human, he looks surprisingly spry. Whether that’s residual magic or just Minsc being Minsc, his exact age remains a bit of a mystery – but he’s definitely old enough to know better and still young enough to do it anyway. | © Larian Studios

Jaheira

Jaheira

Jaheira’s been around the block – and then some. First appearing in the original Baldur’s Gate game, she confirms in BG3 that she was a child in 1347 DR, putting her at roughly 150 years old, give or take a few hard decades. As a Half-Elf, that tracks: old enough to have seen kingdoms rise and fall, young enough to still throw down when the moment calls for it. She’s clearly older than most of your campfire companions, but probably still a few centuries shy of Halsin’s ancient druid status. | © Larian Studios

Minthara

Minthara

Minthara’s age is anyone’s guess – classic Drow move. With that eternally mid-30s glow that Elves get for free, she could be 80 or 800. But context matters: despite being raised like she was destined for legendary greatness, she arrives in Baldur’s Gate 3 without much to show for it beyond some cult connections and a lot of conviction. That lack of a résumé, plus her clear insecurity about it, hints that she might still be relatively young by Drow standards – likely somewhere just past the century mark. | © Larian Studios

Halsin

Halsin

Halsin doesn’t leave much room for guesswork – during one of his campfire moments, he straight-up tells you he’s 350 years old. That makes him the oldest recruitable companion in Baldur’s Gate 3, and it shows – not in wrinkles, but in wisdom, patience, and the kind of gravitas you earn after centuries of druidic heavy lifting. For an Elf, though, that age is solidly middle-aged. He’s basically in his late 30s if you convert that to human years – just with more shape-shifting and fewer bad knees. | © Larian Studios

Karlach

Karlach

Karlach’s story is brutal – and her age only makes it hit harder. She started working for Gortash before she was even legally an adult (think 17 or 18), spent two years under his command, and then got tossed into Avernus for a decade of nonstop Blood War carnage. Do the math, and she’s likely around 30 now – young by most standards, especially for a Tiefling, but already carrying more battle scars (literal and emotional) than most soldiers twice her age. | © Larian Studios

Wyll

Wyll

Wyll is one of the few companions whose age you can actually pin down without breaking out a flowchart. He made his pact with Mizora at 17, got promptly exiled, and has been living the warlock life for 7 years since – putting him squarely at 24. As a human, he looks the part too: young, sharp, and still holding onto that dangerous mix of idealism and regret. | © Larian Studios

Gale

Gale

Gale is a tough one to age – not because the clues aren’t there, but because magic muddies the waters. He’s human, so he should age like the rest of us, and visually, he sits somewhere in the 40s: mature face, a few grey hairs. But we’re talking about a man who reached archmage status before Mystra even glanced his way, and that doesn’t happen overnight – even for a wizard.

Realistically, he had to be at least in his mid-30s when he got her divine attention. And once you start dabbling in high-level magic, all bets are off – wizards have ways of slowing time, touching up appearances, or simply refusing to go grey with dignity. So while Gale might look like he’s in his 40s, and act like he’s occasionally pushing 50, there’s a decent chance he’s older than he lets on. | © Larian Studios

Astarion

Astarion

Astarion is one of the few characters in Baldur's Gate 3 with a gravestone to prove his age – literally. He died at 39, and he’s been a vampire spawn for about 200 years, making him over 239 years old. For an elf, that’s not unheard of; however, the gravestone raises an eyebrow since, in older D&D lore, an elf dying at 39 would be like a human dying in kindergarten. However, BG3 seems to follow the more recent rule that elves age like humans until they reach physical adulthood, and then their aging slows down significantly. Add two centuries of undeath, and Astarion is ancient in experience but still in his prime – if you ask him, anyway. | © Larian Studios

Shart

Shadowheart

Shadowheart may look like she’s fresh out of her twenties, but she’s actually in her early 40s – something she quietly confirms in-game. As a Half-Elf, her aging process is slower than a human’s, so while the years have stacked up, they haven’t left much of a mark. Physically, she could pass for someone half her age, which tracks with elven standards: adulthood isn’t about age, it’s about experience – and by elven logic, she’s still somewhere in the long, messy business of growing up. | © Larian Studios

Laezel

Lae'zel

Lae'zel might act like she’s ready to conquer the cosmos – and she kind of is – but underneath all that bark and bravado, she’s just barely out of her teens. Official sources peg her age between 21 and 22, making her the youngest of the bunch. And while Githyanki age like humans, they usually don’t feel time the same way, thanks to their Astral Plane lifestyle where aging hits the pause button. Lae'zel, though? She’s never been to the Astral Plane. She’s been raised on war, ideology, and blind loyalty, all without the perspective that a few more decades might’ve given her. | © Larian Studios
