15 Stupid Comedy Movies That Are Actually Fun

1-15

Dumb done right.

Cocaine Bear

15. Cocaine Bear (2023)

The real bear behind this story consumed cocaine and died shortly afterward; naturally, the movie imagines that it became an unstoppable furry Scarface instead. Director Elizabeth Banks treats Cocaine Bear as a blood-soaked creature feature, throwing Keri Russell, Alden Ehrenreich, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and Ray Liotta into its path. The effects can be grisly, but the punchline remains wonderfully primitive: large bear, terrible drugs, worse day at the park. | © Universal Pictures

Mac Gruber

14. MacGruber (2010)

Stretching a 90-second Saturday Night Live sketch into a feature film sounded like a particularly reckless studio experiment. Fortunately, Will Forte plays MacGruber with such misplaced confidence that every botched mission, obscene threat, and wildly inappropriate distraction feels essential. Val Kilmer’s villain is almost reasonable beside him, which might be the movie’s finest joke: the alleged hero is clearly the most dangerous person in the room. | © Rogue Pictures

Spaceballs

13. Spaceballs (1987)

Mel Brooks had decades of science fiction to mock, yet Star Wars merchandise may have taken the hardest beating. Spaceballs turns cosmic adventure into a parade of visual gags, shameless puns, and villains who struggle with basic helmet management. Rick Moranis makes Dark Helmet a magnificent little tyrant, while John Candy’s half-man, half-dog Barf confirms that every galaxy could use its own walking dad joke. | © Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer

Cropped american pie 1999

12. American Pie (1999)

A generation remembers American Pie as the film that permanently changed how people looked at baked goods, but its grossest joke is only part of the recipe. Beneath the webcams, locker-room boasting, and catastrophically poor decisions sits a surprisingly affectionate story about teenage insecurity. Jason Biggs supplies the humiliation, Seann William Scott weaponizes arrogance, and Eugene Levy steals scenes simply by being the world’s most patient father. | © Universal Pictures

Cropped step brothers 2008

11. Step Brothers (2008)

Brennan and Dale are grown men with the emotional regulation of children fighting over the good controller. Once their parents marry, Step Brothers becomes a suburban turf war involving a drum set, bunk beds, job interviews, and the aggressively prestigious Catalina Wine Mixer. Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly never soften the stupidity, but their chemistry gives these overgrown disasters enough wounded sincerity to make “Boats ’N Hoes” feel like a legitimate artistic breakthrough. | © Columbia Pictures

Kick Ass

10. Kick-Ass (2010)

Putting on a homemade costume does not magically produce fighting skills, a lesson Dave Lizewski learns with enough broken bones to fill an anatomy textbook. Kick-Ass punctures superhero fantasies through Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s spectacular incompetence, then lets Chloë Grace Moretz and Nicolas Cage demonstrate what dangerously committed vigilantes actually look like. It is violent, tasteless, and knowingly excessive, with comedy emerging whenever comic-book confidence collides with real-world pain. | © Marv Films

Austin Powers

9. Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997)

Mike Myers plays both the hero and villain in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, ensuring that nearly every scene contains at least one ridiculous accent. The film sends James Bond conventions through a lava lamp, replacing suave espionage with bad teeth, chest hair, and Dr. Evil demanding a hilariously outdated ransom. Its references have aged into references of their own, yet the cheerful absurdity remains difficult to resist. | © New Line Cinema

Cropped Waynes World 1992

8. Wayne's World (1992)

A basement cable show, two metal-loving slackers, and an enthusiastically headbanged Queen song were enough to build a comedy phenomenon. Wayne’s World breaks the fourth wall whenever conventional storytelling threatens to take over, allowing Mike Myers and Dana Carvey to bounce between movie parodies, catchphrases, and beautifully pointless conversations. Wayne and Garth may have limited ambition, but their refusal to let corporate interference ruin a good time is strangely admirable. | © Paramount Pictures

Cropped Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure 1989

7. Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989)

Faced with a failing history grade, Bill and Ted use a time machine to kidnap famous figures and turn their school presentation into academic anarchy. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter play the pair as gloriously vacant rather than obnoxious, preserving an innocence that keeps Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure lovable. Napoleon at a water park is hardly rigorous scholarship, but it certainly beats another slideshow about the French Revolution. | © Nelson Entertainment

Dumb and Dumber To

6. Dumb and Dumber (1994)

Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne cross the country to return a ransom-filled briefcase they mistake for lost luggage, so intelligence never had much chance of reaching the destination. Jim Carrey attacks every gag with elastic physicality, while Jeff Daniels matches him without playing a mere sidekick. Dumb and Dumber understands that expertly performed idiocy requires discipline, especially when laxatives, frozen tongues, and violently colored tuxedos enter the equation. | © New Line Cinema

Cropped superbad 2007

5. Superbad (2007)

On paper, Superbad concerns three teenagers trying to acquire alcohol for a party; in practice, it chronicles a friendship experiencing a nervous breakdown. Jonah Hill and Michael Cera trade insults with the intimacy of people terrified that graduation will pull them apart, giving the vulgarity an unexpected emotional backbone. Then McLovin meets two catastrophically irresponsible police officers, and adolescent stupidity achieves something close to mythological status. | © Columbia Pictures

Cropped Borat

4. Borat (2006)

Sacha Baron Cohen sends his fictional Kazakh reporter across the United States, where staged vulgarity repeatedly draws astonishingly genuine reactions from unsuspecting people. That unstable mixture makes Borat more than a collection of catchphrases and public humiliations: the foolish character often exposes attitudes far uglier than his own behavior. Still, intellectual analysis becomes difficult once the naked hotel fight begins, a sequence determined to assault good taste from every available angle. | © 20th Century Fox

Airplane

3. Airplane! (1980)

Most comedies pause after a punchline; Airplane! simply fires another one over it and hopes viewers can keep breathing. The film dismantles disaster movies through sight gags, literal misunderstandings, background nonsense, and actors delivering lunacy with funeral seriousness. Leslie Nielsen’s deadpan performance transformed his career, proving that the straightest face in the room can make an inflatable autopilot seem perfectly reasonable. | © Paramount Pictures

Tropic Thunder

2. Tropic Thunder (2008)

A group of pampered actors believes it is making a war movie until actual armed criminals turn the production into something alarmingly real. Ben Stiller directs the chaos while skewering method acting, awards bait, studio cowardice, and performers who mistake vanity for artistic sacrifice. Tropic Thunder remains controversial for good reason, but its Hollywood targets are unmistakable—and Tom Cruise screaming corporate threats in a bald cap is still an astonishing comic ambush. | © DreamWorks Pictures

Blazing Saddles

1. Blazing Saddles (1974)

Mel Brooks attacks the classic Western with racial satire, studio mockery, anachronisms, and an unusually musical campfire full of beans. Cleavon Little’s Sheriff Bart remains the smartest man in town, while Gene Wilder’s exhausted gunslinger watches bigots repeatedly defeat themselves. Blazing Saddles is deliberately crude rather than careless, placing sharp observations beside jokes so proudly juvenile that the entire film eventually crashes through its own fourth wall. | © Warner Bros.

1-15

Great comedy doesn’t always require clever dialogue, sharp satire, or a plot that survives basic scrutiny. Sometimes, all it takes is an idiotic premise, shameless performances, and enough ridiculous jokes to wear down your better judgment. These stupid comedy movies may not impress anyone at film school, but they’re far too hilarious to dismiss.
