One of the most famous League of Legends players is going to have to quit the game for a while. Jeong “Dopa” Sang-gil, who is hailed as the best solo queue player of our time, will have to take a step back from the game, due to personal reasons.

He outlined his decision in a message online, but revealed that this is not the end of his League of Legends career, but that he is simply taking a small break and will be coming back.

LoL Legend Dopa To Take Break From LoL Due To Military

In South Korea, able-bodied men have to partake in mandatory military service. There are rarely any exceptions, with only those who won Olympic medals or managed other exceptional cultural achievements, like famous violinists, pianists or ballet performers, a small minority.

Unfortunately, 'best solo queue player in the world' is not one of the reasons someone can be exempt from the mandatory military service in South Korea for. However, some Korean esports-stars do have a chance. If the South Korean Asian Games squad manages to earn a gold medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, then the players can be exempt.

Dopa, one of the most well-known League of Legends players to never go pro, went to his enlistment on August 21, 2023, where he will have to serve 18 to 21 months in the Korean Army. He revealed this on a community post on August 20, 2023.

I will be enlisting as an active duty soldier on August 21. It's not a forever goodbye, but it seems like I won't see you for quite a long time. As the time approaches, I've been reflecting. Somehow, I was born with a talent for playing LoL well and I feel I've received more attention and love than I deserve. I'm truly grateful to everyone. See you later then

It seems like the South Korean League of Legends server will have to find a new number 1, with Dopa out of the picture. He's known for reaching number one on both the Korean and Chinese server in multiple roles, as well as his boosting scandals early on in his career.
