The movie based on the popular anime series just entered the top 30 highest-grossing movies of 2025.
Anime fans are increasingly finding their way to the cinema, as more and more Japanese animated movies make the leap to the big screen. These developments are particularly evident in 2025.
A recent example of this trend is Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, which premiered in US theaters on October 23, 2025. The movie got off to a successful start, attracting numerous fans who wanted to experience the adaptation together on the big screen.
About Chainsaw Man
Chainsaw Man is about Denji, an impoverished boy who transforms into the Chainsaw Man after merging with his dog-like chainsaw devil, Pochita.
The anime series of the same name, based on the manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto, has one season so far and has gained a huge fan base worldwide. Although a second season has not yet been officially announced, fans expect it to be released after the current film project is completed, possibly sometime in 2026.
The movie, Chainsaw Man: The Movie: Reze Arc, picks up directly where the first season left off and continues the story of Denji and his encounter with the mysterious Reze.
Chainsaw Man Tops US Box Office
Chainsaw Man opened in approximately 3,003 theaters, earning $17 million across the US and Canada, significantly surpassing expectations. During its opening weekend, the movie climbed to number one in the US box office charts.
It has also been successful internationally, grossing an impressive $110 million worldwide. This makes Chainsaw Man the second anime movie after Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle to enter the top 30 highest-grossing movies of 2025.
The Trend Is Emerging
Movies such as Demon Slayer and the upcoming JUJUTSU KAISEN: Execution clearly show how much the popularity of anime adaptations in cinemas has grown in recent years.
The success story of Demon Slayer particularly illustrates this trend: instead of telling the grand finale of the series in episodes, the final part of the plot is being realized as a movie trilogy.
The movie Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, which adapted the story arc of the same name, broke records and quickly became Japan's most successful movie. Its successor, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle, even surpassed this achievement. It is now considered the most successful Japanese movie worldwide.
And the next highlight is already upon us, as the movie JUJUTSU KAISEN: Execution will also be released in theaters in the US and Canada on December 5. It summarizes the events of the last season and also presents the first two episodes of the upcoming season, which is scheduled for release in January 2026.
Given this development, it is very likely that this trend will continue. More and more anime productions are finding their way into theaters, offering fans a unique experience.
