Over the years, the gaming community has become more and more accessible and welcoming towards people who would don't fit the stereotype: while heteronormative white cis men still make up a large part of the community, it has grown a lot. People nowadays are less comfortable making racist jokes and using slurs in voice chat. Though most people would probably consider that a good thing, streamer Asmongold wants to bring back using slurs.

"That's What It's About"

Asmongold is known for his highly controversial political commentary, which usually favors right-wing ideologies. Though he did state that he was thinking about stopping with the political commentary, he has yet to do so.

In a recently shared clip, the streamer says that he likes fellow streamer TheBurntPeanut because, in his eyes, he embodies what the gaming community used to look like. Asmongold then explains that he wants the old gaming community back, including racism and slurs, even claiming that "that's what it's about", because he basically wants to be able to express his feelings when he gets mad while gaming.

For a lot of people it makes sense that Asmongold would not see the value in the changes the gaming community went through. He fulfils a lot of stereotypes people have for old school gamers: The Texas-based content creator is an American man who frequently shares his right-wing ideologies and defends his messy streaming room, claiming he lives like an American. Freely using slurs online would only add to said stereotype.

"So Say It" – Massive Backlash From The Community, Including xQc

A statement of such sorts obviously sparked a lot of outrage within the gaming community. Another streamer, xQc, also commented on it. While xQc did joke about agreeing that saying politically incorrect things while getting mad because of an online game is understandable, he also added:

"When I hear someone use a slur, first thing I think is you're like some like... low class [...] low education loser."

In the original clip, Asmongold says:

"Whenever I play an online FPS game and I can't use those words I feel like a pitbull."

Basically saying that every time he plays online FPS video games, those slurs are at the tip of his tongue but he ultimately decides against saying them. Upon hearing this take, xQc adds:

"So say it."

Daring him to do it and feel the consequences of such actions. Most of the gaming community seems to agree that using slurs, making racist jokes and being politically incorrect is something that the gaming community doesn't necessarily have to revive. But what do you think? Let us know in the comments!
