It hasn’t aired yet, but Blood of My Blood is already too good for just one season.

In a bold show of confidence, STARZ has greenlit a second season of Outlander: Blood of My Blood – weeks before the much-anticipated prequel even airs its first episode.
Production on Season 2 is already underway in Scotland, STARZ confirmed on June 23, 2025, using the same stages where the original Outlander series was filmed for over a decade.
The early renewal underscores the network’s commitment to expanding the beloved universe created by Diana Gabaldon and popularized by the long-running flagship series.
Two Timelines, Two Love Stories
With the first season set to premiere on August 8, Blood of My Blood will trace the intertwined love stories of Jamie Fraser’s and Claire Beauchamp’s parents:
Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, and Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp. The series promises a sweeping historical romance that spans from the WWI battlefields to the Highlands of 18th-century Scotland.
“These are two fated couples who must defy the forces that seek to tear them apart",
STARZ said in a synopsis, adding that their journeys will “intersect in surprising and unforeseen ways.”

Filming for Season 1 began in January 2024 in Glasgow but was temporarily paused due to severe storms. It later resumed in late February and wrapped in July 2024.
Notable locations included Doune Castle, which returns as Castle Leoch – an iconic setting for longtime fans of the franchise.
Meet the New (Or Rather Old) Generation
The prequel stars Harriet Slater and Jamie Roy as Ellen and Brian Fraser, while Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine play Julia and Henry Beauchamp. These four leads are tasked with portraying characters who have long loomed large in Outlander lore.
Ellen Fraser, Jamie’s mother, is remembered as passionate, fiery, and kind – a woman who captured the hearts of all who met her. Brian Fraser, the Laird of Lallybroch, was tough, fair, and deeply devoted to his family.

Built To Stand Alone – And Expand The Legacy
While Blood of My Blood is steeped in Outlander mythology, it’s also designed to be accessible to newcomers. The series offers fresh stories rooted in loyalty, passion, and defiance, while also fleshing out the origin tales of characters beloved by longtime fans.

“This series is welcoming to viewers unfamiliar with the Outlander universe, while also providing origin stories of fan-favorite characters from early seasons",
emphasized Kathryn Busby, STARZ’s President of Programming.
Franchise Veterans At The Helm
Showrunner Matthew B. Roberts returns to lead the second season of the series, joined by executive producers Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, and Jim Kohlberg – key players in Outlander’s global success.
The show is produced by Sony Pictures Television.
“The passion and talent our cast and crew have poured into Blood of My Blood has been extraordinary. Just as audiences fell in love with Jamie and Claire, we hope viewers will be enamored by these new couples when they meet them this summer.”
said the showrunner.
Busby added:
“We’re proud to continue building on the franchise’s legacy, with Matt and our longtime partners at Sony, who have worked tirelessly to make Outlander the global phenomenon it has become.”
Are you excited for the spin-off or do you think they should focus on other priorities, like, let's say... finally releasing Outlander's last season?
