Fire meets water, air clashes with earth and for the first time, Avatar fans will get to master the elements in true head-to-head combat. The newly announced Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is coming in 2026.

From Screen To Console

For many in Gen Z, Avatar: The Last Airbender was a defining show of their childhood. The animated story of Aang and his friends masterfully blends humor with heartfelt storytelling and remains one of the most beloved series of its time. After a live-action movie (we try to forget) and a Netflix adaptation, the next expansion of the Avatar universe will move beyond the screen and into the gaming world. Developed by Gameplay Group International, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, which is still a working title, has been officially announced and is scheduled to launch in summer 2026. The title will be available on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

Bending Meets Brawling: First Look At The Gameplay

The question now, of course, is how this fighting game will actually play. So far, we know that it will be a 2D fighter featuring hand-drawn animations that capture the expressive style of the original series. The combat is said to revolve around the art of element bending, allowing players to use water, earth, fire, or air to unleash unique attack patterns and combos. The developers describe the core system as a “Flow System”, designed to make movement and combat feel dynamic and seamless. Players will also be able to choose support characters that enhance their fighting style or provide special abilities during a match.

At launch, the game will reportedly include twelve playable characters drawn from across the Avatar universe, with more to come through seasonal updates. In addition to versus and online modes, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game will also offer a story campaign, giving players a single-player experience alongside the competitive modes. Players can also expect combo trials and a gallery mode showcasing artwork and animations from the development process. The game will support crossplay and feature rollback netcode to ensure smooth online battles.

Can Avatar Legends Deliver What Fight Fans expect?

So far, we have only seen a glimpse of what Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game might offer. Still, with crossplay and rollback netcode, the project already sounds promising. The introduction of the Flow System suggests a focus on fluid and dynamic combat, but there is not enough information yet to fully understand how it will play in action. What is clear, however, is that the idea of bringing Avatar’s elemental battles into a true fighting game has captured the attention of both longtime fans and genre enthusiasts alike.
