Baldur's Gate 3 Modders Are Already Working on a Level That Will Take You to Hell

Baldur's Gate 3 is a huge game. However, there are some players who feel that there could be even more to discover. Larian itself has given modders the opportunity to change the game to their liking by opening up the official mod toolkit with its latest patch. But even there were some restrictions - in theory.

Walk Through Avernus - Thanks to the Unofficial Level Editor

It took modder Siegfre just two days to crack Baldur's Gate 3's official mod tools, giving fans access to a level editor capable of creating custom modules and campaigns. Within a week, modders began sharing images and videos of their first playable custom maps.

One of the most impressive projects comes from a fairly small YouTube channel called "s". In a couple of videos, he shows how he is working on a custom map of Avernus - the top layer of the nine hells. His latest video is a walkthrough that looks pretty amazing - especially considering that there are only a few short scenes showing Avernus in-game. It even includes a number of storytelling elements, with details like skeletons you can loot.

A number of modders are organizing on Discord to collaborate and share insights on the level editor. While custom maps like Avernus are still in the early, proof-of-concept stages, the progress is promising, especially considering the short time modders have had access to editor tools that were not originally intended for public use.

It's exciting to think that this could lead to a thriving community of fan-made projects, similar to the modding scenes for games like Skyrim or Half-Life.
