If even the original Geralt speaks up for Ciri, the case should be clear – shouldn't it?

Doug Cockle, the voice of Geralt of Riva, responded to recent discussions about The Witcher 4, particularly the decision to make Ciri the new protagonist, with a brief but direct statement.
The first CGI trailer for the game received mixed reviews. Some fans criticized Ciri's altered appearance in particular, calling the choice to alter her appearance and to choose a woman as a main character "woke". According to the criticism, she looks "less feminine" than in The Witcher 3.
In a five-minute video in which Cockle reacts to popular Witcher memes, he takes the opportunity to speak out against the criticism that has been voiced.
"So All You People Who Think It's 'Woke'...*Blows A Raspberry*"
With this unequivocal statement, Cockle counters those who dismiss CD Projekt Red’s decision to place Ciri at the center of the next game as “woke” or driven by a “modern agenda.”

"I celebrate Ciri. I celebrate her being the protagonist. [...] If you think it's woke, read the books – they're good, first of all. And secondly, you won't think it's so woke anymore.”
says Doug Cockle bluntly.
He’s referring to Andrzej Sapkowski’s original novels, where Ciri not only plays a central role but is considered one of the most complex characters in the Witcher universe.
For Cockle, it’s only logical that CD Projekt Red is now putting her story front and center.
"If you read the books, then you understand why CD Projekt went down this avenue.”
he later adds – making it clear that choosing Ciri is not a political move, but a decision rooted in the narrative.
CD Projekt Red has also clarified that making Ciri the main character is not a sudden change in direction, but the result of long-term planning.
The studio sees her character as a chance to open up new narrative perspectives and to develop gameplay in fresh ways.
Geralt’s Time Has Passed
Cockle himself believes the time has come to say goodbye to Geralt as the series’ lead.
"We've seen the end of Geralt's journey, Blood and Wine was supposed to wrap up Geralt's journey."
The story of the White Wolf has been told, and now it’s time to give space to new characters.
A Wink To End With
Despite his passion, Doug Cockle stays true to his dry humor. In response to another meme, he jokingly suggests:
“I think there should be another game, that’s just about roach. The Witcher V: Roach Returns”
