Dragon's Dogma 2 has finally arrived. To make sure everything runs smoothly when you start as an Arisen, here are our favorite beginner's tips!
Here is our advice to new Dragon's Dogma players...
1. The Right Combination Of Arisen And Main Pawn
There are four initial vocations for your character (the Arisen) and your main pawn. Since your main pawn levels up alongside you and can change professions later, it's crucial to strategize the best setup for both of you.
For instance, if your character specializes in ranged DPS like an Archer or Mage, who may struggle with durability, consider selecting a tank class like a Fighter for your main pawn. Conversely, if you opt for a Thief or a Fighter, having your Pawn as a Mage or Archer can complement your playstyle.
Personally, I play as a Thief and chose to have my main pawn as a Mage, providing healing support and enhancing my abilities such as imbuing my daggers with fire.
2. Loot And Collect Everything
The world of Dragon's Dogma 2 has plenty of loot for you to find. From various plants, fruits and flowers to treasure chests, dead enemies and broken wagons. Keep your eyes open and collect everything you can, it will come in handy. You can upgrade your equipment, combine plants to make powerful healing potions, or sell things you no longer need.
3. Talk To Everyone and Do Every Side Quest You Can
Yes, this is nothing new for RPGs. But still, you should really, really do every little side quest you can. Especially in the first few hours, you can collect a lot of gold and XP that will definitely come in handy. Talk to anyone who looks interesting and accept any opportunity to help others. Trust me, it is worth it.
4. Invest In Armor Early
You start with almost no protection at all. So be sure to upgrade your rags to some decent armor as soon as possible. You will have the opportunity to do this after playing the intro and before entering the open world. The price is really fair, and the gold is definitely well invested, and Vermund will not treat you with kid gloves.
5. Always Take Camping Kits With You
Yes, they are heavy, and yes, they are quite expensive. But they will be your best friend as you wander the open wilds of Vermund. That's because, aside from inns, only campsites allow you to fully restore your maximum HP. You can also cook different types of meat to gain a buff.
Sometimes you can find them lying around as loot, and your Pawn will be very, very pleased to help you carry them, so there are no excuses.
6. Stock Up On Side Pawns (And Change Them Regularly)
In addition to your character and your main pawn, two support pawns can be added to your party. They can be recruited when you encounter them while exploring, or through Riftstones that you interact with. You can (and should) recruit two support pawns as soon as you finish the intro. Not only will they help you in battle, but they will also find and carry loot for you, make cute comments, and give you a high five after you slash a pack of goblins. You gotta love them.
Keep in mind the class of pawns you recruit for a well-rounded party, and try out any combination you like. Remember to change your side pawns regularly, as only you and your main pawn will level up during your adventures.
7. Stay At Inns On A Regular Basis
Inns serve multiple functions: You can drop off excess items to lighten your load and manage your inventory. Resting allows you to fully recover HP and remove debuffs. Most importantly, inns trigger an automatic save, which is crucial for preserving your progress.
It's worth noting that there are only two autosaves in Dragon's Dogma 2: one that activates periodically outside of combat, and another that is triggered by resting in an inn. Returning to a previous save can be a relief during difficult encounters and challenging journeys, even if it means retracing your steps.
8. Watch Out For Seekers Tokens
In Dragon's Dogma 2, Seeker Tokens serve as additional collectibles, 240 of which are scattered throughout the game's vast world. These tokens can be exchanged with Vocation Guild NPCs to unlock various rewards, from armor to rings.
Note that the Trickster vocation offers a unique advantage with its Detection augment. When activated, you'll be alerted by a distinctive tapping sound when Seeker Tokens or Wakestone Shards are nearby.
