Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a game full of unique and frankly strange design decisions and features. While many players praise the title for its unique nature, the Dragonsplague is one element that didn’t go down so well.

Over the first weekend after the bumpy launch, more and more players have been running into the Dragonsplague. This disease is a stronger version of a feature from the first game, and if left unchecked can basically ruin your whole playthrough.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Has A Pawn Pandemic On Its Hands

Dragonsplague is a disease which can befall any Pawn, your NPC comrades in the game, if they are infected by a Dragon or if they contracted the disease from other Pawns. The game doesn’t exactly explain how this mechanic works, but players have already crafted theories on how to detect it and how to deal with it.

If you summon a Pawn through a Riftstone and they have the Dragonsplague, chances are that they will infect your Main Pawn. If a Pawn shows signs of an infection, like having their eye color change to red, complaining about a headache or refusing your commands, you can throw them into water or dismiss them to get rid of the infected Pawn.

This is a pretty unique and wild mechanic, which has caused an actual pandemic to spread through the Dragon’s Dogma 2 community. As players keep summoning each other’s Pawns in the game, the spread keeps going and more and more Pawns are affected by Dragonsplague.

However, fans think that the game went a bit too far with this feature. The consequences of Dragonsplague are dire: If an infected Pawn is not taken care of quickly enough, they will turn into a Dragon upon resting at an inn and kill every NPC in the respective city or town.

Needless to say that this can derail entire playthroughs. While you can revive single NPCs with Wakestones, it currently looks like there is no way to bring back a whole settlement of people. Dragon’s Dogma 2 thrives from having players live with the consequences of their actions and how the world acts around them, but the game might indeed have gone a bit too far with this one.
