With all the updates coming to Genshin Impact this year, fans are hoping for one hated feature to be gone soon.
New year – new Genshin Impact content. Even though the game features just under 100 characters and countless abilities, weapons, fighting styles and ways to play, HoYo already announced more characters, stories, features and locations to explore in 2025.
But even though the amount of additional content and updates is one of the main reasons fans are still loving the game – there are also some features players would like to get rid of better today than tomorrow.
Time gating is overdue for removal
Some materials essential for leveling up your talents can only be found on specific days, meaning if you’re not playing on a day that features the needed resources you can’t upgrade weapons or characters – even if you struggle in battles or can’t complete a quest without it.
This is not only really frustrating, it stops players from progressing or enjoying the game in general.
A huge element of free games
A lot of free and paid games rely on time gating to keep all items, materials or other features of the game free, while offering buying said content on other days as well. However, the Genshin Impact community is more than frustrated about it.

This time of time gating is SO overdue to be removed after four years.
Others even point out how the game should be played whenever you find the time for it – not the other way around:
This is my #1 issue with Genshin right now. I can’t be bothered to plan my week out. I just want to hop on and work on my characters without needing to plan ahead to do so.
A third one even went so far to call it "outdated ****" that "needs to go".
HSR and ZZZ never had the feature
Interestingly, other games like Honkai Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero don’t have this feature and fans are sure that it was never implemented by HoYo because of the feedback from Genshin, "yet can’t be arsed to change Genshin’s system so that we don’t have to wait 1-2 days to start building the new character we pulled for and are hyped to play".
We will see if one of the many updates that will await Genshin Impact in 2025 might remove time gating – the fans however would more than appreciate it.
