The wait for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater’s online battles will be a little longer, as Konami confirms Fox Hunt will launch months after the remake’s campaign.

Fans of tactical espionage will have to wait a bit longer before taking their stealth skills online. Konami has confirmed that Fox Hunt, the upcoming multiplayer mode for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, will not launch alongside the remake’s campaign. Instead, it’s planned for Fall 2025, several weeks after the single-player release on August 26.
A Stealthy Approach to Multiplayer
First revealed earlier this year, Fox Hunt drew immediate comparisons to Metal Gear Online, the multiplayer mode that debuted with Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence and later evolved alongside Metal Gear Solid 4. Like its predecessors, it won’t be about running and gunning – Konami says Fox Hunt will emphasize the series’ trademark stealth mechanics, encouraging players to outwit rather than outshoot their opponents.
By releasing it later, Konami gives players time to fully immerse themselves in Snake’s mission before shifting focus to competitive online matches. While an exact date hasn’t been set, the Fall 2025 window suggests the company is aiming for a polished, deliberate rollout.
Snake Eater Reimagined
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a full remake of the 2004 stealth classic, widely considered one of the best games in the series. Set during the Cold War, it tells the origin story of Naked Snake – later known as Big Boss – and explores themes of loyalty, sacrifice, and the blurred lines between heroism and villainy.
The Delta remake is built in Unreal Engine 5, with overhauled visuals, modernized controls, and reworked 3D audio, while keeping the original’s acclaimed story and level design intact. It’s the first major Metal Gear release since 2018’s Metal Gear Survive, marking a significant return for the franchise.

Konami has yet to outline the future of Metal Gear beyond Delta and Fox Hunt. Industry watchers speculate that the company could use this remake’s reception as a gauge for potential follow-ups – whether that means more remakes, a revival of Metal Gear Online, or a brand-new installment.
For now, players can look forward to sneaking through the jungle in the coming weeks… and then stalking each other across virtual battlefields when Fox Hunt opens its season later this year.
