The developers of Marvel Rivals are known for taking community feedback to heart, and that’s clearly reflected in the announcement of the new season. Season 5 launches on November 14, 2025, bringing a new map, a new mode, and several long-requested features fans have been waiting for.

New Modes, New Interactions

As with every new season, fresh modes are part of the mix to keep things exciting. The first reveal is a new social hub that brings Times Square into the game, where up to 100 players can hang out, dance, or simply relax between matches.

For those who prefer more action, the new 18v18 Conquest mode Annihilation is on the way. It launches on November 27 and lines up with Marvel Rivals’ first anniversary event, which offers 2,500 Units and a free legendary skin for Jeff. Separately, ten new accessories have been announced for the season.

The community has long been asking for a new Strategist, and that wish is finally coming true with Gambit. The new season carries the theme “Love is a Battlefield.” According to some leaks, Gambit was originally planned to be a Duelist, but that no longer seems to be the case.

Gambit enters the battlefield with his signature playing cards. He appears to be a fairly flexible Strategist who can both deal damage and heal using his charged cards. He also has a dash and two additional abilities with cooldowns that can be used in different ways. How the new Support will actually play remains to be seen when Season 5 launches.

There’s even more good news for X-Men fans: Rogue has already been confirmed for Season 5.5 and will join the roster as the next playable character after Gambit. The trailer for the new season also briefly teased Cyclops, hinting that he might make an appearance in one of the upcoming updates.

Season 5 Brings Major Quality Of Life Updates

Season 5 introduces three highly anticipated features that the community has been asking for. The first is the introduction of placement matches for ranked mode. From now on, player ranks will no longer be automatically reset. Instead, players will complete ten placement matches to determine their new rank. For this season, the highest placement from Seasons 1 through 3 and the final rank from Season 4 will be factored into the evaluation, aiming to create more balanced matches in the future.

Ranked team play is also being reworked. Up to the Grandmaster rank, players can again queue in teams of up to six. However, starting from the Celestial rank, only duos will be allowed to ensure a fairer competitive environment.

Cross-progression is also making its debut. Players will be able to keep their progress and skins across platforms, whether they switch systems or play on multiple ones at the same time. Only their rank will not carry over.

Team-Ups and Balance Changes

As usual for a new season, there are also fresh team-ups and balance adjustments. One of the highlights is that Magneto is finally getting a new offensive team-up, this time with Gambit as his anchor. Hawkeye and Blade are also receiving new team-ups with Cloak & Dagger and Moon Knight as their respective anchors. Black Widow will now be part of the Phoenix team-up as well.

Of course, the new season also brings another round of balance adjustments. Hulk, Penny Parker, Captain America, and The Thing are all receiving buffs. Among the Duelists, Wolverine and Spider-Man are getting some improvements, while Loki and Cloak & Dagger will be buffed on the Strategist side. The full details of these changes, as well as any additional balance updates, will be revealed when Season 5 launches.

A Late Reveal For Good Reason

Season 5 was announced later than usual, but given the amount of new content, it makes perfect sense. New modes, cross-progression, and placement matches are features the community has been asking for for a long time.

With this season, the developers of Marvel Rivals once again prove that they’re listening to player feedback. At long last, a new Strategist joins the roster, and even Magneto is getting an offensive team-up that fans have been asking for. We’ll find out how the new season plays when it launches on November 14.
