Before the game gets released in February 2026 we already learned who the characters would be, what the general plot is and we saw the first few scenes – but some fans are a little worried. Parts of the game do not look the way they would expect a new Resident Evil game to look like.

The Next Part Of The Successful Horror-Game Franchise

With its multitude of games and numerous re-releases, Resident Evil has become one of the most famous names in the gaming industry. Despite differing plots, the individual games are linked by a series of recurring elements: familiar, iconic characters, suspenseful storylines with high stakes, and one thing in particular – zombies that must be defeated. Following the release of Resident Evil: Village, the eighth installment in the game series, which was very well received by the community, fans are eagerly awaiting the next game.

Last summer, in 2025, Resident Evil: Requiem, the ninth game in the series, was finally announced for February 27, 2026. There, you return to Raccoon City as Grace Ashcroft alongside Leon S. Kennedy, who is very popular among the fans. Want to read up on that some more? Here you go!

Trailer Leaves Some Fans Worried

Although there is a lot of excitement and anticipation for the new game, some fans are concerned that the developers are changing too much of the general concept. Resident Evil: Requiem has the players return to Raccoon City, a very well-known and iconic location that also played a major role in Resident Evil 3 with Jill Valentine, for example, but not all of the game takes place there.

Judging by the trailers that have been released so far, the game appears to start with Grace Ashcroft in an FBI building where she works. This is followed by several cutscenes of a city where NPCs who don't appear to be zombies are walking down the streets. According to fan speculations, the game could introduce an open-world aspect, which some are critical of.

However, since only part of the game takes place there and the trailers also show the familiar scenes of an old, run-down Raccoon City, it cannot be assumed at this stage that Resident Evil has abandoned its charm and trademark style. Furthermore, the trailer does not show any gameplay, so the reality of the game could be completely different.

So far, the questions concerning what could make Resident Evil: Requiem different and what the community might think of that have not been answered. Therefore there is not much left to do other than get excited for February 27.
