Rockstar recently dismissed several employees. The reason: the staff members were allegedly involved in sharing confidential company information with the public.

Rockstar Cleans House: Over 30 Employees Dismissed Over Leaks

In recent days, Rockstar Games has carried out a series of layoffs. More than 30 employees are reportedly affected, primarily from the company’s studios in the United Kingdom and Canada. The move initially sparked significant speculation: within the community and among industry observers, some suggested that Rockstar had dismissed the workers because they were attempting to unionize.

The company, however, has firmly denied these claims. Rockstar has since provided an official explanation for the dismissals, stating that the individuals in question allegedly shared or discussed confidential studio information, which constitutes a violation of the company’s internal confidentiality policies.

Which specific information was shared externally has not been disclosed. However, the dismissals make it clear that Rockstar is no longer willing to tolerate any potential leaks after several previous security incidents.

Why Rockstar Isn’t Taking Leaks Lightly

Rockstar Games’ strict response to possible rule violations has a clear background. The studio has dealt with internal information leaks several times in the past, most notably in 2022, when confidential material related to Grand Theft Auto VI appeared online.

The incident caused considerable attention at the time and put pressure on the company to review its internal processes and security measures. Since then, Rockstar has been much more vigilant in ensuring that sensitive information remains strictly within the company.

Against this backdrop, the recent layoffs appear to be a continuation of this stricter approach. The studio aims to prevent any further confidential material from leaking, especially at a time when GTA VI is still in development and public interest is already immense.

A Clear Message

The layoffs show that Rockstar Games is taking confidentiality more seriously than ever. After the experiences of recent years, the studio wants to eliminate any risk of internal information being leaked again.

For outsiders, it remains unclear which details actually led to the recent measures. But one thing is clear: Rockstar no longer has any sense of humor when it comes to leaks.
