Silent Hill f brings horror to 1960s Japan – a new story full of nightmares, depth, and atmosphere.

On September 25, 2025, the legendary horror series Silent Hill returns with an entirely new chapter: Silent Hill f. This standalone spin-off takes players to 1960s Japan, to the fictional town of Ebisugaoka, shrouded in a mysterious fog.
The story follows student Hinako Shimizu, who must confront not only supernatural nightmares but also societal norms and personal traumas. Here’s what else awaits you:
Exciting Gameplay and Creepy Atmosphere
Silent Hill f focuses on close-quarters combat: Hinako fights horrifying creatures using improvised weapons like pipes and spears. Firearms are deliberately absent, heightening the tension. The developers emphasize that dodging and counterattacking are strongly inspired by earlier Silent Hill mechanics, rather than modern “Soulslike” titles.

The dark atmosphere is further enhanced by the work of composer Akira Yamaoka and artists Kera and Kensuke Inage. Thanks to Unreal Engine 5, the environments feel especially vivid and detailed, drawing players fully into the nightmare. From fog-covered rice fields to abandoned shrines, the settings are both realistic and surreal.
Platforms, Price, and Editions
The game will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store). Pre-orders of the Deluxe Edition allow players to step into the nightmare a day early, starting September 23. Current prices are around $70–80 for the Standard Edition, depending on the platform.
Recommended PC specifications include an Intel Core i7-9700 or AMD Ryzen 5 5500, 16 GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 or AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT for smooth gameplay in Full HD or 4K.
The expected playtime for Silent Hill f is approximately 12 to 15 hours.
Why Fans Are So Excited
Anticipation for Silent Hill f is huge. On one hand, the new setting in 1960s Japan offers fresh cultural perspectives. On the other hand, the emotional and socially critical story adds depth that goes beyond pure horror. Fans also appreciate the atmospheric design, which blends traditional Japanese architecture with surreal nightmares, as well as the experienced developers, including Ryukishi07 as writer and Akira Yamaoka as composer.
The English voice of Hinako Shimizu is provided by Suzie Yeung, known to fans from Final Fantasy VII Remake (Yuffie Kisaragi) and the anime Chainsaw Man (Makima). Her experience with intense and layered roles promises a particularly compelling performance for the main character.
No Prior Knowledge Needed: Horror for Everyone
Another advantage: Silent Hill f is completely standalone. Even those who have never played a Silent Hill game before can jump right in and experience a self-contained horror story. Series veterans may notice subtle references, but newcomers can easily start with this chapter.
Silent Hill f has the potential to captivate both longtime fans and newcomers, proving that the series can still deliver innovation and excitement decades later – all in a style that is characteristically eerie, surprising, and deeply emotional.
