Maybe in the future, you won’t need to be at home to play on a console. Sitting in your car might be enough.
From the controller to the steering wheel: Sony and Honda presented the first PlayStation-themed car, raising questions about the future of in-car entertainment.
PlayStation Features, Pricing And Availability
Sony Honda Mobility revealed its newest electric car at CES 2026. The Afeela 1 offers a range of PlayStation-themed features, including a custom Astro Bot, a Gran Turismo wallpaper, PlayStation-inspired engine sounds, and built-in support for PlayStation Remote Play. The entire interior follows a PlayStation theme, and customers will be able to further customize it to their personal preferences.
Despite its strong gaming focus, the car’s entertainment features are limited to stationary use. Gaming while driving is expected not to be possible, as safety remains the top priority.
As an electric vehicle, the car is expected to offer a range of approximately 480 kilometers (or nearly 300 miles). Pricing is set between $90,000 and $103,000. The vehicle is scheduled to launch later in 2026 in California, with availability in Japan expected to follow in 2027.
Who Is This Car Actually For?
After the reveal of the Afeela 1, one question immediately arises: who is it actually made for? Gamers are unlikely to be excited about playing games in a parking lot when they could achieve the same result more conveniently and for a fraction of the price with a Steam Deck. The gaming features do not introduce anything fundamentally new, they simply move an already existing experience into a far more expensive environment. With prices ranging from $90,000 to $103,000, the car is clearly out of reach for the average consumer. This places the PlayStation integration firmly in a luxury niche. In that sense, the vehicle feels less like a practical evolution of gaming and more like another example of gaming hardware becoming increasingly expensive, while offering limited real-world benefits beyond novelty.
