Creator Eric Barone tells players not to worry, the bug will be fixed... but will the coyote stay?
Fans have waited long enough for Stardew Valley to receive its next big update, and now that waiting finally paid off! But hold on... where's my chickens?
Stardew Valley's 1.6 and 1.6.9 updates
The big 1.6 update, released March 19 of this year, added a ton of new features to Stardew Valley. Ranging from new festivals and events to the addition of a Goby fish, the update grants players a greatly expanded experience to have lots of fun with. And, of course, there have been a lot of bug fixes.
Just this Monday, November 4, the 1.6 update was also released for console and mobile, so that more people will get to enjoy all the new features and fixes. Along with it, creator Eric Barone, better known as ConcernedApe on social media, released another, albeit smaller, update on top of the other.
The 1.6.9 update is definitely not as big as the 1.6 update, but adds a small amount of content to the game, but mostly focuses on bug fixes, minor tweaks to existing content and a few updates for older features of the game.
However, a curious bug has made itself evident ever since the first release of version 1.6.
The bug that makes chickens disappear
A new type of farm land was added to the game with the update: Meadowlands. Whenever you start a game with this farm type, you get a coop and two chickens to help you get started.
Strangely enough, after the first day, the chickens will disappear when you open up the gate to the coop.
Barone quickly took note of this and posted about it on X / Twitter. He stated:
PSA: there is currently an issue, if you start a new farm on the meadowlands farm and open the animal door on the coop day 1, your chickens will disappear. If you leave the door closed for one day, it should save them. We will fix this.Lore: There is a wild coyote on the farm day 1 rn

It's not necessarily usual for developers to address issues within their game with such humor, but Barone seemed to have felt up for some fun. Almost as if he knew exactly what comments would follow this post:
You should keep it and make the coyote adoptable

I'd adopt the crap out of a coyote. Just saying.

Does the coyote have a name? And when you patch the bug, will it cease to exist completely or continue to exist in the Stardew Valley Multiverse?

I know how this snowballs. I'll log on next week and there'll actually be a coyote, called Grahbag or something and he'll drop off a golden dragon fruit that I put in the well at midnight to get a magic stick.

Instead of worrying too much about the bug, people are demanding this invisible coyote become a reality. Sadly, Barone has yet to fix the issue or add the coyote into the game, but he just might!
