The most well-known modding platform, Nexusmods, is reportedly up for sale. What will happen next?
A Hub From Gamers, For Gamers
Pretty much every gamer has visited Nexusmods at least once. No matter what game it is, if it can be modified, you'll find a variety of patches, new content, improvements, and tools for modders there. The size of the website can also be proven in numbers: 16.9 billion downloads, nearly 717 thousand mods, 63.4 million members, and $12.6 million in rewards for creators. This is important because many of the games are literally kept alive by mods: Fallout: New Vegas, which is now 15 years old (how time flies...), has over 37 thousand mods on its own, with new ones being added all the time. But now, after 24 years, everything is about to change.

The Dark Side Of NexusMods
Dark0ne, the owner of the website, talks about how he founded the site in anticipation of The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind – alone in his room. Now, decades later, things look a little different. He talks about how the site has led to burnout, which has also caused stress-related health problems. This has affected not only him, but the entire team behind NexusMods. That's why he decided, with a heavy heart, to sell the website. This includes everything else that NexusMods manages: Not only does the website offer a forum where users can exchange ideas, but also Vortex, a software for managing and installing mods.

Fans Are Scared For The Site
Fans are reacting to the news with concern. This is understandable because no one wants a large company behind the site that will further commercialize it. After all, that's exactly why gamers visit the site – it was made by gamers for gamers. It doesn't help that the buyer's name is unknown, so no one knows what the deal is. Only the name "Chosen" was mentioned, a company that is potentially supposed to take care of the site. The problem behind this? The company focuses largely on unlimited growth, monetization strategies, and NFTs. We hope we're wrong about the implications of this, because NexusMods simply doesn't deserve it.
Dark0ne also assures that he will remain active on the site if he can't help it.
