The Mound confronts you with psychological challenges. Teamwork can mean the difference between life and madness.
With The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu, the Chilean development studio ACE Team announces a new survival horror game that delves deep into the nightmarish world of H. P. Lovecraft. The title blends psychological horror with cooperative gameplay and puts players in the role of an expedition team venturing into a dangerous jungle shrouded in myth. But what else should you know about the game?
Nightmare Expedition In The Mound
A recently released gameplay trailer shows the team arriving at a mysterious shoreline, surrounded by dense forests, ancient ruins, and eerie phenomena. The opening scenes already set the tone: every expedition holds the potential to descend into a nightmare at any moment. The focus isn’t on quick jump scares, but on psychological illusions and warped perception, the hallmarks of Lovecraft’s cosmic horror. Players must contend with external threats while also confronting the inner abyss of their own characters.
The Mound is designed as a cooperative experience for up to four players. Before the expeditions begin, participants choose their equipment aboard a galleon and plan a route through the cursed jungle. Strategy and teamwork are crucial: ammunition, healing supplies, and other resources must be used wisely as the team responds to unpredictable creatures, traps, and hallucinations. Communication, trust, and split-second decisions are vital for survival. Even a small mistake can jeopardize the mission and sow distrust within the group.
Psychological Horror In The Lovecraft Style
The developers emphasize that the game blurs the boundaries between reality and madness. The environment is constantly shifting, and the interplay of illusions and cosmic horror forces players to question every situation. "The supernatural forces not only hunt the players but also distort their perception of every moment in order to throw the team off balance," the official description states. The result is a tension-filled experience that relies more on psychological effects than on conventional horror.
The release is planned for summer 2026 on PC via Steam, as well as on the current consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Until then, there is still time for final optimization, particularly regarding stability and performance across the different platforms.
With The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu, players can expect an intense blend of Lovecraftian horror, strategic team play, and psychological tension. Anyone brave enough to venture into unknown, dangerous terrain with friends and to question their own sanity along the way may find a truly exceptional horror experience here.
