Harrison Froeschke, Senior Product Manager at Blizzard, recently shared the total revenue generated by Diablo IV on his LinkedIn.

Diablo IV Relative Successful Thanks to Pre-Orders & Microtransactions

Total revenue from Diablo IV currently stands at about $1 billion, with a cool $150 million coming from microtransactions, like the season pass and skins. This makes it a relatively successful launch for Blizzard, and puts it above both Diablo 3 and Diablo Immortal in terms of revenue generated in the first year of release.

Not long after the release, we heard that Diablo IV brought in $666 million in the first five days, with most of that money coming from pre-orders. So they haven't done exceptionally well post-release, but it's worth remembering the game is now available on Game Pass, so that might account for fewer post-release sales.

To be frank, we also expected their microtransactions to be more successful; you might recall the YouTuber and former Blizzard employee, Pirate Software, who famously revealed to the world that Blizzard made more money from a $20 mount in World of Warcraft than they did from Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty. But in Diablo 4, which is largely single-player, it makes sense that players would be less inclined to buy microtransactions.

Are you still playing Diablo IV? Or are you waiting for the new expansion?
