A teaser for the second season of the Netflix animated series Devil May Cry give fans a first look into what they can expect. Although Devil May Cry 2 will premiere 2026, fans already pointing out aspects they want to be changed in season 2.

Making Dante The Main Character

Originally, the series is based on the Japanese video game franchise by Capcom and follows Dante, a demon hunter, and his conflict with his twin brother Vergil who is seeking power over everything else.

And this leads directly to what fans criticize: In Season 1 of the Netflix series, Dante seems less important than for example character Mary, having almost no impact on the story, as commented on the teaser on X, saying that Dante only gets beaten up by Mary:

Also, fans of the video game series state that Dante was “nerfed” in season 1 and are afraid of season 2 being the same. Instead, Dante should be “more badass” and more in the focus of the story, with more meaning to it and more screen time. In short, they want more Dante.

At least, people are intrigued by his longer hair seen in the teaser.

Less Swearing By Lady

Besides people calling the Netflix series Lady May Cry to emphasize how the center of attention was shifted from Dante towards her, they also complain about her swearing in season 1.

YouTube comments on the teaser underline that the amount of Lady swearing in season 1 is just too high, hoping for a redemption in the next season:

Guys! Lady hasn’t swore for a full minute! She’s getting better!
Three things season 2 needs to improve: 1. lady/mary Redemption…

Fixing Vergils Lack Of Motive… And His Voice?

Vergil is Dante's twin brother and an important character in Devil May Cry.

People are not only demanding Vergil to be more reasonable, claiming there is “no reason for Vergil working for Mundus”, but also want his voice to be fixed. Apparently, unlike the original voice actor Daniel Southworth from Devil May Cry's game franchise, the chosen voice for Vergil in the Netflix series doesn’t seem to fit the character.

EsmeraldStorm9437 comments on the teaser on X saying that one of his two issues is “vergil’s voice”. Another comment on YouTube points out that the voice actor “doesn’t sound like Vergil” and that “Vergil doesn't get excited like this guy sounds”.

Regardless of those opinions, we already hear the same voice actor for Vergil in the teaser for season 2 and probably can’t expect for his voice to change.

Anyway, the one-minute first look into season 2 is very brief and although people fear to be disappointed, we don’t know details on how the story will be continued yet.
