Move Over BTS: Netflix’s Fictional "Saja Boys" Dominate US Spotify Charts

K-Pop Demon Hunters is a huge success on all accounts. While all songs are certified bangers, one song went above and beyond.

Sony Animations K-Pop Demon Hunter is a huge success story. The movie by Maggie Kang about a demon slaying, quirky K-Pop band is loved by critics and the audience alike and hit No.1 on Netflix in 26 countries. Now the movie's own villain, the demon boy band Saja Boys, got a record of their own.

Especially the song Your Idol of the fictional boy band got so popular that they are now the highest charting male K-Pop group in US Spotify history on #2. With that they even surpassed the previous record holder BTS, who charted on #3 with their 2020 released song Dynamite.

This is even more surprising, considering that BTS just reunited after their military service. One might think the big comeback would spike the band's hype and overshadow the fictional boy band, but that says even more about the quality of the movie and the songs.

The Movie's Siren Song

In the movie, the K-Pop band Huntr/x is not only there to entertain large crowds of fans with their hit songs, but also protect the human world from demons. In order to defeat Huntr/x and their protective barrier, the demons send their own, evil K-Pop band to the human world. The Saja Boys quickly rise to fame as no one suspects their evil plan.

This leads to the climax of the movie and the song Your Idol, which is about obsession and idolization. But instead of condemning it, the Saja Boys want the fans to be obsessed to better control them. At times the song sounds like a creepy cathedral and has a latin vibe to it, which strengthens the band's demonic theme.

So the song doesn't just sound great. Its villainous character transforms it into an evil, siren-like K-Pop song that feels unique and gathered a lot of listeners. And having a K-Pop band incorporate the mythical concept of sirens seems like a match made in heaven.

Possible Collab In The Future?

BTS seems to also love the movie. During their reunion live stream Kim Namjoon, the leader of BTS, started singing one of the Saja Boys's songs Soda Pop. But to be fair, even I have that song stuck in my head ever since watching the movie. Maggie Kang, director of the movie, even posted a tweet about wanting Saja Boys and BTS to collab.

Time will tell if the hype around the animated K-Pop band will stay or not. BTS is already striving to break the record in their upcoming album, releasing early 2026. But at least for now, the visually stunning siren song of the Saja Boys has lured in a lot of listeners.
